Also now that K has hopefully more users latest titles will always be more popular. It is just numbers. That’s why someone needs to manually do a cost/benefit review for cinematic upgrades.

The point is that you are not the arbiter of which movies are given C and which are not. Just because some people choose to repeat viewing doesn't mean that those movies should be excluded from C upgrades.

I think that some people have poor taste in movies. Does that give me the right to determine which movies get C upgrades and which do not? Should only customers who agree to watch what I consider good movies and don't have young kids be allowed to buy K players?
 
I think it's too easy to dismiss Disney fare as "kid's stuff." What I find very interesting is the differences we see on K versus the physical media market. When it comes to discs, Disney's family fare is dominated by DVD sales. Spend the least, let the kids watch it over and over.

For the average animated film, Disney only sells 4%-8% in 4K UHD Blu-ray with over 60% going to DVD. Anyone struggle to get Zootopia 2 or Toy Story 5 in 4K Steelbook? It's not because there's an issue with meeting demand, it's that demand is so incredibly low that few units are pressed and scalpers step in. (At no time have these titles not been readily available via third parties, eBay, etc.).

Meanwhile, on K, we see the charts absolutely dominated by Disney's animated fare in the highest quality possible. Maybe it's just a matter of "It's digital, why not buy the best"?

I did not advocate to remove them from upgrade but to balance them with other popular titles. I’m highlighting the inherent bias that it’s introduced when K keeps using same popular/repeat viewing titles for upgrades (which they confirmed) instead of focusing on what movies benefit that most from cinematic upgrade and using other metrics such as popularity by age groups/box office/review ratings.

It is very likely that cinematic upgrades will slow down after this initial wave similar to what happened to DV upgrades. A lot of popular titles (e.g., Matrix) were never upgraded to DV as they didn’t show up in repeat viewing metric and will likely fall further down now in popularity if same approach is used again.
 
It would be interesting to see how many movie purchases are through digital offers or new movie purchases. My parents (and likely many people on this forum) have hundreds of DVD or blu-ray movies of questionable quality that were acquired over many years as gifts, bargain bin sales, or garage sales. I’m sure there is the tendency of “why not” when adding these titles to Kaleidescape inexpensively through digital offers. I bet this has the movie popularity statistics significantly skewed.

I'm sure this is why views is weighted in the algorithm. It's no coincidence that the most popular movies are also those most commonly found in demo scripts. Is Ballerina really the most popular John Wick movie? No, but the flamethrower scene is a current demo script darling. John Wick 4's overhead scene is the same. Now, which title has been watched all the way through the most? Quick possibly the original. Or, as you point out, newer buyers already watched the earlier films and the later films get more views just because there's more K owners.

But, if as you suggest, they are in "demos" then perhaps they should be given priority updates. Wouldn't demo scenes be good for owners and good for K to look the best they can be?
 
Correct, I was pointing out that simply buying a title doesn’t get it to the top of popularity, people also have to watch it a lot. And, if it gets watched a lot, it’s a good candidate for 4K Cinematic. I think everyone would ideally want 4KC on all 4K titles, but that won’t happen and it’s the less popular but well loved titles that people are making the case for.
