Movie Updates

The Accountant (2016) from Warner Bros updated to include C_DV/C_HDR with DTS-HD Master 7.1

Did they update the audio as well recently to 7.1? I believe it was 5.1 earlier, or maybe I’m mistaken.

The 7.1 track is badass!!

Edit: C_SDR added as well later on.

It was 7.1 on K before (matching the disc's audio track).

Glad they stuck with the 7.1 and didn't drop it to 5.1. From the outside looking in, obtaining/retaining 7.1 tracks doesn't always seem to be a high priority. 🤷‍♂️

For those with overheads that use either Dolby Surround Upmixer or DTS Neural:X, both upmixers perform noticeably better when fed a 7.1 track vs 5.1.

Just finished the d2d on TD nights. Redeemed the digital code on both iTunes/MA. Unfortunately it redeemed in HD (theatrical) on iTunes; MA was 4k with 5.1 (theatrical). Note: Redemptions are only available for the theatrical version.

It appears that only fandango offers the full complement of 4k/atmos for the unrated cut on the digital platform.

Fwiw I test drove TD Nights cinematic for a bit (C_DV) and it looks quite awesome.

Are you saying that iTunes gave you a dedicated Theatrical (ONLY) Cut of the movie? That's interesting. I wonder if Sony put that rule on Movies Anywhere and the only offering Apple has is a delisted HD movie. (I've used Movies Anywhere and codes to unlock delisted titles before, generally on purpose to access something no longer for sale.)

I don't own the title so Apple is showing me what MGM+ has to offer. However, Apple is very clearly offering to sell me a 4K version of the Unrated Cut with iTunes Extras that include the Theatrical Cut. I won't know the details without buying which I'm not interested in at this time. Maybe someone else can chime in?

The scoundrels obviously want you to buy the unrated cut.

They are only offering the Hd theatrical version with the digital code (included with the 4K Blu-ray).

Thanks for update on Talladega Nights, I think I will download the D2D and go with the 4k cinematic version.

They also added Dolby Vision to this which was a nice surprise to see. This was the sole MCU movie I had where the disc was better than K due to the disc having DV. I thought it was an odd one to be a “downgrade.”

It doesn’t seem like older Sony movies get updates to DV very much so this was a nice surprise. My MCU collection on K is complete!

The more I think about what Apple is doing with the Movies Anywhere Talladega Nights redemption, the more I like it.

First, I'm not a fan of the fact that Movies Anywhere allows rules on redemption. Ideally, you purchase a title and any store can simply give you their current offering of the title. However, whether to suit themselves or entice other studios (I suspect the former), Disney built MA to allow strict rules. Get a digital code from a Blu-ray? HD only for you! Get a digital code from a 4K UHD Blu-ray? Ok, you get 4K. This can be extended to discrete cuts, etc. Ugh. Some (most) studios don't care and let the desired behavior take place. It appears that for this title Sony opted to only allow theatrical cut redemption, regardless of what the offering may be from the digital store. (Apple only has a single listing including both cuts; Fandango has separate cuts.)

So, why do I like it? Apple only allows the re-purchase of titles through workarounds. So, in the prior example where a Blu-ray unlocks only digital HD when 4K is available, the customer ends up "stuck" with the lower resolution. However, if Apple is either knowingly or unknowingly following the rules Sony dictated while NOT locking a user out of directly buying the current/superior offering, I consider that a win. Even if it means a delisted HD version.

Rules bad, not locking out users good. :)

Not sure why, but I keep getting errors while trying to do updates. Specifically on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Iron Man & Iron Man 2

There's a bug in the store code that can be hit in certain cases when there's an update for a movie you have downloaded and a new quality is also available (e.g. you have an updated 4K HDR10 version available AND a new 4K Cinematic HDR10 version).

This issue has been found and fixed and will be deployed in the next store code update. In the meantime, as a workaround, you can delete the movie from your local library and requeue it for download.

Check Shelter, downloaded Cinamatic Dolby vision and was showing up as 16:9 on my Lumagen rather than 2:39:1 as advertised. Blacks were very muted and picture did not look good. Deleted and downloaded Cinematic SDR, correctly showing up as 2:39:1 and looked better. I think there is a problem with the Dolby Vision version.
