The atmos track on the new beetle juice is quite amazing. This is a bonafide dynamic track with excellent front to back and lateral movement within the height channels, which is congruent with on screen activities. It blends in quite seamlessly. Some nice LfE as well in certain sequences.

The atmos track on the original Beetlejuice is no slouch either. In fact the wides are very active on the original beetlejuice. I can’t say the same for the new version, wherein the wides had negligible engagement. This would be only nitpick for an otherwise excellent audio presentation.

Awesome to hear.

I just saw The Others for the first time, on 4K Criterion disc. Holy moly that was spooky! Very well written and performed.
I saw this in the theater when it was released. I remember it being a good watch and a great twist. I'll have to revisit this one.

Watched my 'bargain' Super 8 movie tonight and it was excellent. Somehow we had never watched this movie before having just seen clips. The train crash sounded very nice.

Oh boy this movie had me rooting for the wrong individual initially. Lol. What an epic twist. Great thriller. Shot entirely in 35mm film, the picture is amazing with a nice layer of organic film grain.

Have this in my queue, excited to watch. Giovanni Ribisi's debut as Director of Photography sounds like he knocked it out of the park.

Watched Alien: Romulus tonight. Looks and sounds amazing on K. A fun, action packed addition to the Alien franchise.

I just finished this as well, and yes, agreed. Looks and sounds fantastic, and I enjoyed the movie as well.

I saw Romulus at its first screening the Thursday of its opening weekend. To me, Alien is up there with Star Wars, 2001, and Blade Runner. I thought Romulus was the best Alien film since Aliens, but was still at best an average film. It seemed like a remix of good Alien bits, a really bad CG choice, and a Friday the 13th setup with teenagers running from a monster. Kind of a waste of a theatrical slot for a worthy Alien successor film.

I'm lucky in that I rarely get as deep into a franchise as some do. I obviously know (and love) the original. I've seen all of them, but at this point watching Romulus it could have very easily been a standalone, not part of a franchise. I'm very good at evaluating a film separate from the entire franchise, and this was an enjoyable sci-fi action flick. Perhaps it's a benefit of my neurodivergence. :)

While my neurodivergence has me come down hard on it like an orbital space elevator smashing down to the surface.

Last movie watched is a fav of the wife...and I not too proud to admit a guilty pleasure of mine:

You really just admitted that? Out loud? In a public forum? :)

Just kidding, while I wouldn't say it's a favorite of mine, I did enjoy it. Great cast!

Despite its age, I can’t believe how good the quality of this movie is. I know why I was into home theatre stuff years ago. Sometimes older films are just so good compared to what they make now.

Watched this moving film from Shoplifters director. Told in a Rashomon style.
Sounds amazing! Thanks for posting. Just purchased it and hope to view it soon.

I might be in the minority here, but I think I had more fun with the sequel. I watched them back2back on consecutive days. The original is a classic but feels a bit dated imho. I love both, but the new version just feels like a total package. Great audio and video as well.

Curious if you now feel one should watch (or re-watch) the original before viewing the new one? I’ve not seen the original for many years and barely remember anything other than the high level premise. Does enjoyment of the sequel really improve by being very familiar with the details of the original?

It is not necessary, however Imho there is a more seamless flow/experience when you watch the sequel or reboot. Like you, It had been quite a while since I watched the original. There were quite a few key moments in the original movie which had evaded memory. This was a great refresher and served me well when I watched the sequel, as I could easily relate to the characters and the new landscape.

Then again, I didn’t re-visit Top Gun prior to watching Maverick when it dropped. But I feel Maverick was more standalone in nature with some homage (along with Easter eggs) being paid to the original.

Could also be attributed to the rewatchability factor which is associated with a movie like top gun. Not taking anything away from beeteljuice, but I’m quite sure top gun got several multiples viewings compared to beeteljuice.
