Last movie watched

Just watched Ad Astra. My vote for boring movie of the year
One of the worst movies I've watched in the last decade and that's saying something because I've watched some really bad movies.

Ruthless People - first time watch - great 80's aesthetic, enjoyed it, probably don't need to see it again.

One of my favorite movies from last year. One can make a case that the titles refers to Cinderella. There are definitely better ways to get skinny!
Man! It was so disturbing when she had to "stop the process" of getting skinny. Yet I couldn't tear my eyes away from the screen. 😦😅

So I had no idea who Lee Cronin was when his name was featured in the title. Half way through I told my son that this movie felt like an Evil Dead knockoff without the humor. He told me that’s probably because Lee Cronin made Evil Dead Rise which I really didn’t like either. The soundtrack beats you over the head, characters come and go, convenient passageways in the main home’s walls, and if you’re into watching children be sacrificed maybe this is your movie. Some gore, but more mean spirited than gory.

I was eager to see this given the hype. Did it live up to the hype? Not really but maybe I had different t expectations. I thought this would be more Housemaid than supernatural horror. A very slow burn, but the lead actress makes the movie. I like it more in retrospect for what it tries to do and mostly achieves. Curry Barker has a bright future.

Hokum remains as my favorite movie of the year.

Watched Bronson last night. Picked it up, along with a few other sale titles yesterday. Great film, though not for the faint of heart. Tom Hardy gives a great performance. Nice transfer as well. Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut cinematographer shot the film

Watched "The Furious " last night. One of the best action/martial arts movie I have seen in some time.

Just did the double whammy of The Shining and Doctor Sleep which I’ve finally got around to watching. The Atmos mix in Doctor Sleep was superb, one of the best I’ve heard, will definitely add it to the demo reel.

K could've been the only source for the full-quality Doctor Sleep Director's Cut 4K as this was available digitally at launch and never released (then or since) on 4K UHD Blu-ray. Alas the best available is the Director's Cut in HD only in the UK Store, matching the studio produced Blu-ray. Major missed opportunity in my mind.

FYI, for those that are unfamiliar, Doctor Sleep's Director's Cut is pretty universally praised as a superior version of the film. Like The Abyss and Kingdom of Heaven, this is a case where the original has been fully eclipsed. (I'm not claiming the differences are as substantial as those two, just that I don't know of anyone that chooses the theatrical cut nowadays, hence why so many wanted it on 4K UHD Blu-ray and not just streaming.)

I’ve watched Equalizer 1,2 and 3. I’ve watched those before in my theater but this was the first time since installing my Trinnov Altitude 16 last year with Waveforming earlier this year.

WOW! The Atmos/Surround tracks demonstrated excellent detail. Bass was tight and explosive. Gunshots and explosions via my JBL Synthesis speakers slammed us in the chest. Even though I’ve seen the movies before, the car explosion caused me to jump.

I highly recommend all three movies for video quality and outstanding surround sound quality. Denzel was great in all three. Even though he’ll be 72 in December he as able to pull off the McCall role. I’m happy that he agreed to do Equalizer 4 and 5 if they have a fifth.

What’s waveforming?

Would that replace eqBEQ that some of us use now?
I don't think anyone has successfully used beq with WF. It is very challenging to deal with ultra low frequencies.
BEQ is something I sometimes miss with my previous Monoprice htp1 unit. But WF is sublime in the right setup.

What’s waveforming?
Trinnov’s proprietary next level bass management. Front subwoofers are emitters and rear subs are out of phase so they absorb the bass wave to reduce reflections from the back wall. This tightens up bass and reduces the seat to seat variability on bass. Even well treated rooms will likely have some seats that are boomy and others with neutered bass. Trinnov Waveforming balances out the normal seat to seat listening experience.

I was always a little skeptical before implementing Waveforming but with the right content the difference is amazing.

Arizona - definitely worth a watch. Great set-up but doesn't quite deliver like I had hoped.
No offense but I don't get it. Why are you recommending a movie that let you down and didn't deliver as you hoped? Shouldn't that warrant a "Not Recommended" review?

I'm not interested in wasting time watching a movie that has a great set-up but then flops. How can that be a recommendation?

You're absolutely right, you can't read my mind, so I'll elaborate so hopefully you can understand:

I would rate this movie a 3.5 out of 5. In my opinion worth a watch, would even watch it again with certain friends. But not sure it will be a multiple time viewing alone for me.

Based on who was involved with this movie and how it started off I was hoping for a 4 - 4.5. Therefore, it didn't quite reach the level I was hoping it would. Hence my point about not quite delivering as I had hoped. That doesn't mean it's not worthy of people watching it. Others may view it differently.

Not every movie can be Casablanca or 12 Angry Men, nor do they need to be to be worthy of a watch. In the future I will try to be clearer.

Late to the party but finally watched the new Superman. I had missed watching this in the theaters. Having grown up watching the late great C. Reeve Superman, I’m not accustomed to seeing Superman getting his a$$ kicked throughout the movie, like I did in this James Gunn presentation. Lol.

Hopefully future iterations of this legendary figure would be projected in a slightly more dominant fashion. From the HT pov, this was awesome on both fronts.
