KEAOS (Software) UPDATES

Update to Movie Details Sheet
The movie details sheets in your library of the onscreen display have been updated to align with the onscreen store, including the addition of Rotten Tomatoes and Common Sense Media ratings.
Awesome! Consistency across various products is very high on my list of K enhancements so this is great to see! Thanks!
Support for conversion of more HD library content for Strato V, E, and M
If we assume 3-4 weeks of rollouts, we're looking at another large dump of compatibility updates the first week of September.

  • Discover Row: For grouped players, there is now a Discover row in the collections menu that shows a random selection of movies that are downloaded to the system.

Can you expand on this when you says "grouped players"? Can say two Strato E's be grouped to share storage, like Alto's could? Or does they have to be in a group with a Terra?

Hello everyone. We have commenced the rollout of kOS 10.22.0-26159.

Changes include:

Collections Menu Updates for Strato V, E, and M
The following updates to the collections row menu have been implemented for Strato V, E, and M movie players.
  • Discover Row: For grouped players, there is now a Discover row in the collections menu that shows a random selection of movies that are downloaded to the system. The content refreshes daily to show different movies in your collection.
  • Rentals Row: The Rentals row has been moved above the New row so that you can easily find rented movies that may expire.
  • Scripts Row: For systems that have scripts, you will now see them listed in the collections menu with a generic cover and the title of the script overlaid.

Performance Improvements and Fixes
We have made several behind-the-scenes improvements to enhance performance, including:
  • Reduced the bandwidth consumption and download time of movie store database updates
  • Support for conversion of more HD library content for Strato V, E, and M
  • HDMI/HDCP Interoperability Improvements
  • Bug fixes
Hoping this is addressing the audio drop outs some? I realize it’s difficult since there are so many variables in products and connections but I still get them

Will there ever be an update to 4K UI on the Strato V or is that a limitation of the hardware chosen? It's really my only regret with Kaleidescape as the UI looks quite rough at 160".

It's a hardware limitation of the V/M/E.

That's a shame we took a step backwards. When a major selling point of your system is the UI it seems counterintuitive to nerf it just to release a new device. I wanted DV but didn't realize I would be sacrificing the UI to get it. I have $200 media players that handle DV and a 4K UI. With the margin there must be in this hardware it seems an odd decision to cut corners and cost here.

I agree! for a premium price you should get a premium product

Everyone has a different opinion on this topic and it has been discussed in several threads on this forum, but in my opinion, the point of the product is to access the highest quality movies in terms of audio and video this side of blu-ray. Now, what you place a value on is up to each person. I just find it mildly interesting that the movie wall is like the highest priority for some that are buying these devices.

I had folks over this past weekend to watch a movie in my theater; it was their first time watching a movie in my theater. Not one person mentioned the movie wall nor did they marvel at it or at what I was using as my movie player. They loved the experience that my theater provided. The experience I get from watching movies on K is of utmost importance. I don't stare at the movie wall nor am I in awe of it. But your mileage may vary.

Or at least as good as the older model...
Is the reason you got the product bc of the movie wall? I know it's cool, but to literally be disappointed your device didn't have the cool movie wall is different. I mean if that's what you wanted it for,....that's your choice, but these products also give you access to high qualities movies including newer movies that will never see the light of day on 4k blu ray.

Not to mention that we had several threads on this forum where folks discussed the merit of not getting the movie wall on the V and E unless you add a Terra server. I can see where some folks may have missed those threads, but they're all over and available for anyone to read.

This was not a cost-cutting move. I addressed the reasons behind this difference back in September of last year, in this post:

Well, I can see you have strong opinions on the matter as well. : )

I never said I didn't love the quality and convenience of Kaleidescape and of course those are of ultimate importance to me. That doesn't mean I can't wish for the best of both worlds when 4K UI was a thing with what will eventually be a legacy product. Did you miss the part where I said this is literally my only regret with Kaleidescape. I love the ecosystem and yes I did buy a server to access the full movie wall with full knowledge that would be necessary.

So, sorry if I touched a nerve but for the price we pay for these devices, I do expect them to be a cut above the competition. I feel that they are in every way except the UI on the V. Yeah, it's kind of a big deal on this screen size.

Thank you for this! I appreciate it.

For me, one of the biggest unsung benefits of the C is, with its 4K UI and movies, I have far fewer HDMI handshakes when going back and forth between movies or scenes and the UI. It's a small thing, but it's a nice thing and makes the whole experience of starting a movie a lot more slick.

Great insite. being in Canada, the strata V is $6500. Be nice to get a 4K UI on my big screen if the price was an extra $300-500 so be it

There's no reason that the Strato V or E would have more handshakes going between the UI and movie playback. While the Strato V/E UI is rendered at 1080p on the graphics plane, that image is then upscaled by the player to 4K, so there's no resolution change when transitioning between the UI and a movie. The exception would be if you configured the player to use an external scaler. In that case, all content, including the UI, is output at its original resolution and frame rate.

Thanks for the update! I've been asking for the Movie Store details page to be brought over to the library section for some time, so I'm very pleased to see that happen. I much prefer the generic icon/cover for Scripts as well. I will have a video coming soon on the channel to cover the changes and show them in action (probably by tomorrow morning).

Might be a madVR thing? It loves handshakes. It's like it's running for office.

Agree 100%. This is a very valuable update. Not a week goes by that my wife doesn’t ask about rotten tomatoes when we are selecting something to watch. I’d have to go to the store either on a device or scroll through the movie menu.
