Kaleidescape Integration - first look

@jayjsea - thanks for the Kaleidescape integration! I did a similar integration for my old Pronto TSU9400, although given its circa iPhone 1 era hardware, showing poster art is very slow. So I’m excited to setup my remote 3 with the Kaleidescape integration.

Question: I have Docker VMs (running in Proxmox VE HA cluster). I wonder if I should install the Kaleidescape integration in a docker VM or install it directly in the Remote 3?
My next update with media browsing will only run on the remote

Thanks. Curious - will next update still run in a docker VM but without the media browsing component? Or, we’re just better off running the integration in the remote itself. I’m weighing pros/cons of remote versus docker since I hear it’s a bit more complex to update an integration in the remote than in docker.

There’s an integration that runs on the remote that makes updating integrations as simple as updating apps on your phone.

Are you referring to the procedure that you discussed here:

BRW, love your videos covering the remote 3!

No, there is an integration that was just released in the last couple months by Jack Powell that will tell you current status of all integrations installed and allow you to update them with a single click. I've not done any videos on this yet because I've not been using the UC remote while I swap out some other things in the equipment rack.

Wow! One would expect that this functionality should be native to the remote 3! Anyway, kudos to Jack, again!

Posted new version with media browsing and search, also added sensors for AR & Movie Location.
If you completely remove version 1.x.x, then you can use the Integration Manager to Install, but don't try to do an upgrade.

I’m trying to add my new Strato E to my Unfolded Circle remote 3 and the driver is not finding it. Everything is turned on, on the same network, but the Integration just does not find it. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I installed the latest version of the integration just a few days ago using Integration Manager.

I had similar issues. Apparently, the new version of the Kaleidescape integration was changed significantly and requires server and player ip addresses. I have two servers and had problems and others with a player but no server (like a Strato E without a server) also have had problems. See Discord - Group Chat That’s All Fun & Games. I was able to resolve my issue by trial and error and the recommendations listed by the integration developer on the Discord Channel linked above.

I was able to get it working following some of the recent posts on the discord. I had to copy and paste a back up template the creator posted. Works great now. It’s amazing what this remote can do.

Does anyone have any updates on their experiences with the AVA cinema remote? It’s worked quite well for me so far.

I have been temporarily using my old Anthem AVM60 processor while I wait for new StormAudio hardware to arrive. The AVA was able to quickly and easily update my flows to use the Anthem, so I've been using it extensively. I added a brain and some of their IR extenders and I am really pleased with it.

The Unfolded Circle remote has been powered down and stored until the new StormAudio equipment arrives because they don't have Anthem IR in the database, and I didn't want to take the time to learn it. Had I realized the extended window without the Storm, I probably would have learned it.

Basically, I love both these two remotes, though the AVA is more home-theater centered and has a lot of the higher end and boutique devices we use directly in the database and ready to use, whereas the UC remote is very smart-home centric and depends on the user development base to provide compatibility - which has been very impressive. But not for my old Anthem.

I am curious given all the updates and such....how would you rank the three: AVA, UC, X2 in terms of integration with HA for home theater automation?

Integration with HA is no contest. The UC remotes are far and above the other two in terms of HA integration. The other two are limited, and much more convoluted with configuring HA controls since they only use webhooks.

This is fantastic, thanks for posting! I installed and it's made updates so much easier. A couple needed to still be manually updated to get to the level of automatic updating, but that was easy enough. It didn't require me to re-make all my activities, the integrations just swapped themselves out.

Hi,
just looking into options for a potential client:
Is it possible to integrate an unsupported 3rd party device (screen masking system) via RS232?
I just need to send out some dedicated commands for different masking positions.
Thanks!

I do this now with the Seymour Screen Masking, but I had to write a Home Assistant Integration for the Seymour. Then just using the select entity from HA on the remote to change the masks

New version is available with added sensors/selects, plus fixes for navigation issues, see release notes
