I am very new to Kaleidescape so pardon my ignorance but what kind of equipment is needed or what kind of DVD rom drive due I need to import my existing 4K ultra discs into my Kaleidescape E? Is it even possible to import these existing 4K discs to Kaleidescape? Thanks to anyone who can advise me on this issue.

You're overthinking this. Any drive in the same Pioneer family that reads UHD discs should work. You put the disc in and it literally pops out 5 seconds later, it's not anything specialized. Get a drive, put it in an enclosure, start cataloging.

There are dozens for sale on ebay.

Wait for mine!

@Pwiman, the drive I mentioned is not available. I was reminded it was loaned to another person and has not yet been returned. I emailed this person twice in the past two days but have not heard back. If I do get it returned I'll let you know, and you are welcome to borrow it.

Thanks for the quick response and thank you for your time. Yes let me know if you make any progress on your return and I would appreciate the chance to deal with you on the device.

Will do!

Any word on your return of the drive yet?

David
Jim,
Another question when cataloging regular dvd discs in the K store is it possible to keep a disc at a standard dvd format instead of upgrading to a blue ray or 4K quality? Some movies I believe are fine on standard dvd format.

Yes, if K has the DVD version it is usually offered, but I there are more HD offers than DVD for many/most titles.

I think that loaner is gone, he has said he'd look for it and get back to me, but that was more than a week ago. If you're in a hurry, you might as well order one, otherwise I'll let you know if it shows up.

Hey Jim thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate your help and let me know if that drive shows up. Thanks again.

It we're only talking about cataloging the discs, sometimes the 4K disc worked and sometimes it didn't. It seemed to work when there was no corresponding 2K disc for that title.

I am very confused! Is there a way I can import an UHD disc into Kaleidescape Premier? How? Do I replace the drive in my M500 or something like that? that? Please advise, thank you!

No. Premiere systems do not support 4K content of any kind. Strictly HD, Blu-ray Disc, SD, and DVD content is supported.

It should also be noted that while people are cataloging 4K Blu-ray discs in attempts to get digital offers, playback of 4K Blu-ray discs is not supported on Strato systems either.
