Evil Dead Burn no 4KC... what is the decision making process?

So, I mistakenly assumed that new releases would see 4KC treatment. Especially any higher profile films or those from a larger studio so I am a little perplexed by the lack of a 4KC version for Evil Dead Burn. I realize horror may not necessarily be high profile, but seeing as the new Scary movie got it I am a little baffled by what I can only discern as a conscious decision to not provide it for the latest Evil Dead. I, for one, am much more interested in seeing this than the latest Scary movie. This gets me to my real question, how is the decision made as to which films gets the full treatment and which do not?
 
I also had assumed that all new 4K releases would get 4KC (ideally all variants). Maybe Evil Dead Burn is just a timing lag issue where the 4KC will follow quickly after the “regular” versions on release?
 
That was my thought as well. It's coming, but lagging. That said, this would mark the first new release (I am aware of) that didn't drop immediately with the 4KC version in tow and would have it show up after the fact. I have seen catalog titles that have made their way to 4K without the 4KC version and then eventually it would show up a week later (I'm looking at you Eyes Wide Shut). I think for me it is concerning as it makes my buying decision a bit more difficult. I will buy a $40 WB release with 4KC, but that same $40 WB release without has me thinking I will wait for the 4K BD.
 
I think K-scape has to be like a duck floating on a lake right now. On the surface all appears serene, but below the surface they are moving like crazy! The Strato K and 4KC has to be rocking their world. Their process/workflow may need some dialing-in here and there, and making sure 4KC is done when new releases drop is an example.

I don’t know why, as a rule, there wouldn’t be a 4KC for all new 4K releases?
 
Cinematic just opens up another level that studios could theoretically hold back during theatrical windows, etc., if they want to. My guess is, if anyone, Warner would be the one to hold onto it until theatrical release ends.

I considered that, but Supergirl is still out and about in theaters, in the Premiere window and yet has a 4KC release. I am leaving the quality of the movie out of the consideration. LOL

Maybe I don’t fully understand how things work behind the scenes, but I thought K-scape derives the 4KC from the same mezzanine files used to create the regular 4Ks. If so, then they theoretically could release 4KC simultaneously on the platform. Unless K-scape is behind on 4KC creation and doesn’t want to delay the release to wait for it. I’m just speculating there.

If the 4KC’s are created from the same mezzanine files as the regular 4Ks, another upside is that eventually we should see 4KC’s for all previously released 4K’s, but it may take some time.

It's true, but studios could theoretically put restraints on what type of quality can be released on what timeline, akin to how rentals are sometimes not available until the theatrical run has ended and the disc is available for sale. I have no proof of this, just hypothesizing like anyone else. But it's not beyond the realm of possibility that Kaleidescape had to request new studio agreements to provide higher bitrate files in the form of Cinematic versions, and studios may have taken that opportunity to create new restrictions on availability to protect other revenue streams.

Just thinking out loud.
 
Recall that we've seen evidence that K has multiple pipelines for encodes. How many times did we see "new release" movies come out with HD encodes incompatible with the new players, only to see them updates days or weeks later? And this went on for many months. Whether it's different pipelines, overwhelmed processes, or just dropping the ball. My guess is most/all new releases (certainly major studio releases) will get 4KC encodes and if they're not at launch that doesn't mean they're not on the way.
 
We determine whether to offer 4K Cinematic releases based upon the popularity of the movies on our platform (or in the case of new releases, the anticipated popularity). Producing additional versions of a movie costs money (storage, compute, human review time, etc), so it's not really practical for us to offer it for everything.
 
Thanks @MikeKobb for the disappointing clarification. I am a bit surprised that Evil Dead Burn didn't make the cut and yet Young Washington did. Guess I will be sticking with the 4K BD release then.
 
For whatever reason, the horror genre is just not popular on our platform. There are certainly some enthusiastic devotees, and we hate to disappoint anyone, but to be a successful offering, we have to be data-driven.
 
Yeah, I had a feeling that was the case. Probably shouldn't hold out hope for Lee Cronin's The Mummy then in 4KC. At least we got Obsession and Weapons...

Oh, I think that Lee Cronin’s The Mummy in 4KC will happen. It just seems K-scape is hesitant to offer multiple versions (theatrical, unrated, extended, director’s cut, special edition) of movies, horror in particular.

I don't see LC's The Mummy and Evil Dead Burn being different from one another in this situation. Hell, EDB did better domestically than The Mummy :LOL:

True. Sorry @MikeKobb , but 4KC is the new standard. K-scape created it and they should fully embrace it. If something is “regular” 4K, it should de facto get 4KC going forward. K-scape will only set themselves up for endless complaints if they don’t do what it takes to make that internal policy change.

I really do agree with this. When positioning yourselves as the premier movie player, there shouldn't be any picking and choosing which content gets the premier treatment, because that makes the users have to pick and choose on their end. Eliminate questions, eliminate doubts, provide the highest quality for every single title and actually back up the marketing claims.
