Disney has eliminated their physical home video team. Does this signal a potential shift/openness to licensing? An abandonment of the physical media market? Or, were these largely redundant positions due to outsourcing production/distribution?
Per the latest figures for 2025, physical media now makes up 1.4% of home video revenue and Top 10 best selling discs don't crack $10M. Disney has the first month of Zootopia 2's actual sales figures ($1.8B Box Office), one week of Avatar: Fire & Ash's pre-order sales figures ($1.5B Box Office), and has now taken this action.
These are interesting days that we're living in.
