Cost of Importing Currently Owned 4K HD-BluRay Movies into Kaleidescape

Those in particular wouldn’t bother, MGM have terrible D2D pricing, the bond boxset in particular is massively cheaper to get the whole content set because they’ve priced them crazy.

The content set is $265, the 5 Daniel Craig films are $150 ($30 each) with D2D it brings it down to $128 ($25.6 each) sales which they occasionally do will either be $15 per film ($375 for all 25) or all 25 I think was $200 ($8 each).

You can probably tell I’ve spent a lot of time working out how to get the best prices 😂, love a deal which with KScape is a bad thing because the constant sales lure me in like a drug addict to crack.

As to the UHD question you can try there’s just no guarantee it will work as it’s not designed to.
Also don't bother with the Connery Bond titles on Kaleidescape. It's the one example I've found where the 4K Kaleidescape versions are substantially worse than the new remastered 4K HDR discs. Hopefully that changes soon, but for now they're pretty ugly in comparison.

Also, I'd recommend borrowing your friends' and neighbors' crates of blu-rays. For a tea party discussion of their tactile feel, no other reason.

Has the Star Wars 9 movie collection set ever been on sale on Kscape? I want to buy it, but hoping for a sale on it.
Yes it was $84.99 around Star Wars Day (May 4th) and $74.99 last year during Black Friday sales. If you ever want to check previous sales the thread Movies on Sale... compiled by @ironcross is a great resource to search with the forum search function.

They are better than the old Blu-rays though right? I don’t have any of the older bond films as they were always playing on TV in the UK so anything is an upgrade for me! Only the new bonds have been updated the older ones are still the old masters with the Connery ones only recently getting a UHD release but given the KScape ones are 4K SDR if they do come, the HDR upgrade will be free which is my only thinking in getting it now as I bet MGM will up the bundle price!

Doesn’t look like Apple has the updated ones yet either so probably not available for digital release yet.

For the Connery and Moore films, the Lowery remastering looks lousy. Whenever characters are moving, a cloud of noise surrounds them. It’s so bad that my wife asked if this was some kind of digital effect when Roger Moore is walking around Drax’s estate hunting grounds. They’re pretty unwatchable, and I can’t wait for the Moore disc collection to come out.

I hope these new versions come to K. This sort of thing is hard to predict. Maybe it will be like all the boutique 4K exclusives of must-have catalog movies. I don’t really want to sit around waiting for the best version to hit a specific platform. Ironically, that’s why I got a K in the first place, the long wait to get Maverick in full fat 4K. K of course has a huge advantage in current releases. But for now, I love my Connery UHD discs, or more accurately my Plex rip of my set.

I’m hoping with it being MGM/Amazon they will be updated fairly quickly, from what I’m understand though the Connery set it just a tester to see how well they sell before deciding if they will do remasters for the rest.

Hello again everyone

I am resurrecting an old thread that I started because I am finally in my house and am ready to start cataloging BluRays. I bought the Buffalo BRXL-16U3 disc drive since it was recommended on the Kaleidescape website. I watched a YouTube video on how to do the DtoD conversion and it seems pretty simple. The only question I have for all of you before I begin cataloging my first disc is a statement in the video that I should not keep the Buffalo hooked up the K-Scape unless I am planning to use it to catalog discs. Is this correct? It is easier to keep the Buffalo hooked up to the K-Scape all the time but if it is going to cause problems, then of course I will disconnect it when not in use.

Wish me luck! I'm very excited!

I have mine hooked up all the time but turned off, turning on only to catalog. The drive exclusively uses external power. If your drive is capable of being USB-powered, I would remove it when not in use.

Got it, thanks. That helps.

I do not believe there is an ON/OFF button or switch on the current Buffalo model. It requires the USB to be connected to the K to function which means it's always drawing power and potentially communicating with the K whenever it's plugged in. I recommend disconnecting if not cataloging.

Thanks for the tip, I will verify the connection when I get home later today.

Yay! Thanks to your help and the YouTube video, I was successful in downloading about 20 movies onto my 8TB Terra server. At this rate, I think I am going to need a 24TB server! LOL!
:)

Most of the movies cost $4.92 which I thought was very reasonable, but a couple (The Terminator and True Lies) were $21 and change. I guess because they are new releases.

I'm looking forward to this weekend!

Thanks again everyone for your sage advice.

Terminator is MGM and True Lies is Fox. Both studios have terrible Disc to Digital rates.
Your $4.92 DtoD rates were likely Warners, Universal or Paramount. Those studios offer very generous DtoD rates…

Thanks for this information, I did not know that. I cataloged a few more movies last evening and I just noticed that all but one were priced at $4.92. The only one that was more was "Live Free or Die Hard" which was $21.67. I'll have to check which studio it is from.

Thanks again for all the tips>

Yup. The Die Hard series are from Fox. Now part of Disney. These studios are not very DtoD friendly…

FWIW, I bought this series when it was on sale - $30 for the 5 movie series, without any D2D. You can add movies to your Wish List, and it'll notify you when there are sales available on any of them.

Wow, thanks for the tip. I will do so right away!
