Strato V black screen and audio cutout issues

So just for clarification. These drop out issues appear to have a common denominator in Dolby Vision? So if I buy a movie and download the HDR10 version am I ever able to get the Dolby Vision option or does it need to be repurchased? I’m thinking this would show as a “movie update” and I would elect not update until the issue is potentially resolved with a firmware update?

No need to repurchase. Just download the DV version. When you purchase a 4K HDR movie, you get all versions available. So if it also has DV, 4K SDR, etc, you can always DL those later.

I would also highly suggest that you have an active HDMI cable with a longer run. 6’ or less im running passive. Pixelgen to the tv is a 25’ run active. When I swapped that cable all my issues minus the neon pink OSD went away.
Im using the cable that came with Strato V.

I have completed a ticket. I never noticed this until the last few days. I had decided to get the Mission Impossible set. It was a bit of a problem with MI5, but MI6 it happened like 35times. I have held off on watching the newest one in case there is a fix in the works.

You have that 6’ cable directly from the V to your tv or projector and nothing else?
We may be talking different issues? I’m talking about the DV/AVR issue. I have cable connected to AVR and that is connected to TV. My LG OLED doesn’t have DTS audio capability.

I think it’s all connected. I have a Denon X6700H then to the LG OLED. How long and what brand is your HDMI cable from the AVR to the tv?

Why doesn't my Denon X6700H recognize a Kaleidescape Dolby Vision title as Dolby Vision? The TV will recognize the DV as being active, but the AVR does not? The titles I was watching is Iron Man UHD. Very strange!

I changed High Dynamic Range settings from browser from Default to "prefer dolby vision low latency " and on screen info now changes to regular color and I can also access avr settings page. Player is now doing DV processing instead of TV.

I changed this setting as well and the AVR Info screen color is good but still nothing is indicated “HDR”.

I feel until they fix the DV bug, it will be better to just avoid DV movies.

Unfortunately it appears that Dolby Vision is the Achilles heel of this Dolby Vision player. :ROFLMAO:

I have been avoiding DV versions of titles since my projector is not even DV capable so im better off anyways with HDR10 version.

That said, I have encountered black outs, audio dropouts as well as neon pink issues with HDR10 movies so this is most definitely not just a DV bug. :(

I heard back from Kaleidescape support with this:

The receiver specifications reports that it supports the latest HDMI specifications such as 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz pass-through, VRR, ALLM, Dynamic HDR, HDR10+ and eARC support.

Dolby Vision is not listed as a supported feature. https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/avr-x6700h/300005.html

I responded with this:

That is not true! I have several devices connected to the AVR and it does support Dolby Vision, and that fact is indicated on the Info screen when receiving Dolby Vision signal. Here are the specs which clearly indicate that it supports Dolby Vision:

This is Denon's fault as well, they have conflicting statements regarding DV. Some parts of their site do not show DV listed, while others do. If a person only read what, apparently, Support saw when they looked up that model, you'd think DV wasn't available. A closer read on the site shows what you stated, that it does support DV.

I hope the issue of black screen isn’t with my Anthem MRX-1140. I know it says Dolby vision Compatible. Dolbly vision works with 4k disc, as well as Apple TV.

The only issue I see is a random black screen no other issues. I did do a ticket with support last night. I also may be wrong but I thought the Strato V knows if you can playback Dolby Vision, and if you can’t it doesn’t let you download the wrong file. I could be wrong as I have only had it since August.

Since this is an ongoing problem for some owners and not others, there must be something in common between these owners. I know I've not experienced any Black screens, and no audio dropouts either. We've watched about 5 DV titles, and 4 HDR10 titles without experiencing any issues, except one instance where I heard a low static pop sound in a Soundbar at a point in a movie where another member had an audio dropout. I only heard the pop sound because I was checking the audio at the exact spot reported by the other member. If I hadn't been watching the playback timer and listening intently, I doubt I would have even noticed the pop.

To be clear, I'm not doubting anyone else's experience, but I'm still thinking that some* of these issues are related to individual setups, based on the equipment, including cables, and settings being used. (*I used "some" because I know K is working on fixes that are more universal among owners).

Not entirely sure I agree since...at least from what I have gathered on the forums there is quite a bit of variance in equipment setups amongst the people reporting the various problems....so not much in common. The only common variable is the Strato V.

Thou, would be nice if we could identify what everyone with the issue has in common besides the Strato V.

I hate to suggest but perhaps the supplied pixelgen cable. That seems most likely perhaps.

Easy enough to test....except for the fact that none of these issues are reliably reproducible. I can go days without any blackouts, dropouts or messed up colors. Each time I have encountered a particular issue...it was isolated ...even if I rewind or restarted same movie or scene the problem would not happen again. Without being able to goto movie A...timestamp B and get a problem every time its hard to rule out cables or devices.

Ive had colors go whonky (neon pink) with Strato V plugged directly into the JVC....or thru the AVR...but again...isolated...could never reproduce with the same title/scene.

Thanks that’s interesting. I will have to do some testing with different films.
