K has a bit of a backlog when it comes to catalog titles from Sony*, but I'd say there's a pretty decent chance. Generally the issue with Sony catalog releases is that they're not particularly timely. However, Apple is already streaming this title in 4K Dolby Vision, so it doesn't appear that there's a date restriction on it. Fingers crossed...Does anyone think that we’re going to get the 4K update of Can’t Hardly Wait? It will be available on 4K blu ray Aug 20.
Thanks for this!Three more titles now in DV (no audio changes)

Excited for "We Were Soldiers" - one of my favorites!
I'm doing this manually BTW so if I'm not guaranteeing that's the only new ones, just what I noticed.
Possibly if you cross your toes, knock your knees together, wish upon a celestial body and most importantly believe. Personally there are a few titles that are really screwing with my arthritis.I've noticed a few titles where the HD version has spatial audio, usually DTS-X, and the 4k version just has DTS 5.1. Atomic Blonde is an example. Do they ever update the 4k to spatial audio later?
I’m not sure if that’s the actual rate, but it is basically just whenever the QA process completes. The team was working for quite awhile ahead of the launch to ensure that we had a good batch ready at release. There are many more coming. Many more.Seems like the DV titles are being released at
1-4 total per day after QA process is completed, is that about right @MikeKobb ?
We got spoiled on that initial DV batch launch!![]()
Yes, this does happen sometimes. It’s a long and complex tale that has been discussed here in the past. Here’s the capsule summary:I've noticed a few titles where the HD version has spatial audio, usually DTS-X, and the 4k version just has DTS 5.1. Atomic Blonde is an example. Thank you for explaining why some 4k movies on K may lack a spatial audio track if said track exists on disk or streaming services. I had a lot of guesses in my brain, but nothing concrete.Yes, this does happen sometimes. It’s a long and complex tale that has been discussed here in the past. Here’s the capsule summary:
Those factors sometimes combine to create what you’re seeing: lossless object-based spatial audio on the HD version, but not on 4K.
- Kaleidescape does spatial audio (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X) when there is a lossless version available from the licensor.
- Sometimes there are only lossy versions available, which is what streaming services use. We don’t use those.
- Some licensors have separate business units for physical media and electronic-sale media (or even entirely separate distribution companies), and so there are sometimes cases where the assets that were created for physical media aren’t part of what the electronic-sale side of the business can distribute.
- Through a historic quirk in how our content licensing works, we are sometimes able to get the assets that were created for disc, but only for SD and HD.
We are always working to add spatial audio to 4K versions when possible. If you buy a movie that initially has something like 5.1 or 7.1, and we later get a spatial track, you will be notified that an update is available, which you can download at no charge. If you check out the history of this thread, you’ll see that this happens pretty often.
@MikeKobb , when is the next big batch? This week ?I’m not sure if that’s the actual rate, but it is basically just whenever the QA process completes. The team was working for quite awhile ahead of the launch to ensure that we had a good batch ready at release. There are many more coming. Many more.
@MikeKobb , whenever you get a chance (if possible), would love the technical detail on process of converting current titles to a Dolby Vision add and what’s involved in the process. No big batches for Dolby Vision. They're being released as soon as they're done, a few at a time.
Sure. For the Dolby Vision titles, we have...We’ve heard a bit of detail re: HD re-encoding but do you have similar detail for the DV additions to existing titles that you may be willing (or even able) to share from the team?
I’m interested in the process and also typical time it takes per title, what makes some easier than others etc.
I know you already said priority given to most popular titles but just curious re: the process since some like LOTR trilogy have theatrical and extended versions both vs. hobbit trilogy which doesn’t have extended vs. Bourne that has 2 out of 5 etc….
@MikeKobb , thank you!Answered here!
