Awesome John! At least you don't have to worry about a player going down!

Back in 2018 I moved into a new home with an idea to "upgrade my stereo" from my Monitor Audio Radius 270, Arcam AVR360 and LG 65" OLED, which had and still, serves me well today since 2015 or so. (well the LG changed to the Samsung Q9FN that summer due to the brightness of the new living room and the Arcam became Onkyo TX-RZ830 for 4K, subsequently joined by an extra Lumagen 4242 🤦‍♂️ )

Things rather somewhat snowballed... and the old dining room then became the dedicated movie and music room... which very quickly became "the Cinema room". I was then introduced to K in September 2018 and then it really did became quite the addiction...

Fast forward 3 years and now it is at version 3.0. It is beyond words visually and audibly. It has literally caused tears, tantrums and all sorts along the way but you can't help but smile when you use it. The best part is seeing others - particularly those that claim they are not bothered or cannot tell the difference - helplessly grin from ear to ear  Even with everything off, its kinda like an awesome twist on a Cryo Chamber:geek:

I can say for certain, although it is amazing, I am not sure it is an adventure for everyone - monetary and commitment wise. I've ploughed everything and then some into this project - some of which I will likely never need to replace in effect - but I love film and music and its an amazing way to escape day to day existence.

Sad as it is to say finished and then tear it all down, I'm having to move house. Thankfully the individual buying the house wants to keep and use the cinema - I'm downgrading some aspects of it for them but the core will stay the same. I suspect they too will now end up being Kaleidescape customers :)

If - and surprisingly that's quite a big if - I was to do it again, I would definitely put in HVAC! It can get very warm, particularly with 4 people in there.

If I am fortunate enough to attempt a version 4.0 then I would hope to build it from scratch. Room in a room. With only the screen at the front and the AV equipment in a dedicated rack/server/projector room at the back. Time will tell on that one but one thing for sure, I won't ever be selling my Kaleidescape components :geek: :love:

Great post, Tim and amazing set up. It will be tough to say goodbye to I'm sure.

You missed an important item off the Equipment List that I spotted in the pics though:

* Can of Stella

An essential part of the experience surely!

:D

It must be a reflection, but in the second picture, third rack from left, the top Strato (or is that a Terra?) looks like it has an optical drive.

BTW, it’s cool to see all of those components in one spot.
The 2 Stratos on the bench look like they have optical drives too 🤔 🤫 😂

Asked, and answered (above), but not the answer many hoped for....😞

Yes I saw that Jim, but they were referring to the one in the rack. The ones on the bench also seem to have perfect optical drive shaped reflections. ;) Reflections of what might have been perhaps!

Ha, thanks! Yes, I'm trying to give the positive vibes about it on here but yeah, not easy at all... onwards and upwards and all that jazz...

LOL. I noticed that too last night and thought how the heck did J get away with that one - usually there's a no breach zone from the front of that cabinet, particularly for liquid!!

One of the best things I put in (should add it on the kit list) was a fan less fridge, perfect for those longer sessions, although bloody dangerous too ! :devilish:  Found the thread we did on it a while back: Fridges!

Might be units they experimented with, but in any case I accept John's explanation. (But I will get my eyes checked ASAP!😁)

Just to muddy the waters even more then, the ones on the table are actually Strato C players. Not only do they not have an optical drive, but they don't have any storage in them either.

Feels like a cozy room. You need a Strato and a PS5. ;)

So what are all the toys and models around the room? I see a Falcon, Star Destroyer, etc?
Every possible Lego Star Wars that existed or exists…..some nice collector items in there, discontinued today. My son since he was 8 loved making them, he is 21 today and still does! They are all around the house…..

Awesome. Back in 2013 I was in Jackson Hole and on a no-vis day I went around the town. Stumbled into a toy store and they had the UCS of the Death Star and Star Destroyer for $999.99 each. I clearly remember asking if that was a typo... boy I should have bought them... :ROFLMAO: I'm still at a loss how I never picked these up before then anyways as I was always a geek - I can only think that given the 2000's I spent more time in pubs and clubs that I was too busy ploughing my money into partying🤩:devilish:

My kids co-opted our 4th bedroom as the "LEGO room". The table by the window is my daughter's "land". The other is my son's. Those gray drawers are loaded with color sorted pieces.

I think a lot of folks here have already seen this article, but for anybody who hasn't:

My build thread on AVS needs a bit of maintenance, since one of their board updates managed to lose some of the images (grrrr), but most of the interesting stuff is still there.

Vodder, I envy the star ceiling. I wanted to do that, but there came a point at which I was just exhausted and unwilling to put any more effort into anything. I wanted to do IMAX-style lights behind the fabric to show off the speakers and acoustic treatments, but that fell by the wayside for the same reason. Oh, well.
