Howdy y'all, don't know if there has been a thread for this before, I couldn't find one. But thought it might be cool to see the amazing setups some of us have to enjoy the epicness of Kaleidescape. Whether it be full blown cinema rooms, quality AV setups or simply just the best source material you can buy in a living space, maybe even on the go! I've seen a few camper vans with K built in and obviously there's the super yacht market but that's a whole other level! 🙃

Either way, I'm going to do a little post on my current setup next. I might expand how/why I did certain things, when I get a little more time. Isn't procrastinating great! :ROFLMAO:

Back in 2018 I moved into a new home with an idea to "upgrade my stereo" from my Monitor Audio Radius 270, Arcam AVR360 and LG 65" OLED, which had and still, serves me well today since 2015 or so. (well the LG changed to the Samsung Q9FN that summer due to the brightness of the new living room and the Arcam became Onkyo TX-RZ830 for 4K, subsequently joined by an extra Lumagen 4242 🤦‍♂️ )

Things rather somewhat snowballed... and the old dining room then became the dedicated movie and music room... which very quickly became "the Cinema room". I was then introduced to K in September 2018 and then it really did became quite the addiction...

Fast forward 3 years and now it is at version 3.0. It is beyond words visually and audibly. It has literally caused tears, tantrums and all sorts along the way but you can't help but smile when you use it. The best part is seeing others - particularly those that claim they are not bothered or cannot tell the difference - helplessly grin from ear to ear  Even with everything off, its kinda like an awesome twist on a Cryo Chamber:geek:

I can say for certain, although it is amazing, I am not sure it is an adventure for everyone - monetary and commitment wise. I've ploughed everything and then some into this project - some of which I will likely never need to replace in effect - but I love film and music and its an amazing way to escape day to day existence.

Sad as it is to say finished and then tear it all down, I'm having to move house. Thankfully the individual buying the house wants to keep and use the cinema - I'm downgrading some aspects of it for them but the core will stay the same. I suspect they too will now end up being Kaleidescape customers :)

If - and surprisingly that's quite a big if - I was to do it again, I would definitely put in HVAC! It can get very warm, particularly with 4 people in there.

If I am fortunate enough to attempt a version 4.0 then I would hope to build it from scratch. Room in a room. With only the screen at the front and the AV equipment in a dedicated rack/server/projector room at the back. Time will tell on that one but one thing for sure, I won't ever be selling my Kaleidescape components :geek: :love:

I really should add too, that one of enduring aspects of Kaleidescape has been this forum and the people on it. Combine that with the epic support at Kaleidescape themselves and its something a lot of other vendors could learn a LOT from. Happy Sunday to you all 😘😎🤩

Kidding....that looks like something Theo K. would build....but probably not in a bedroom.

I’m trying to talk my husband into converting our patio into a home theater. I would love it (although you’d have a hard time getting me out of there)!

PC on top is a custom build running an 11900K and both an EVGA 3090 and a 3080
CyberPower PR1500RT2U Smart App Sinewave UPS

The equipment mentioned above is mostly on the right side of the rack and services the theater. The upper left is a Denon X1600H and some Triad SubAmps that drive my living room (Sony 85X900H and 2.2 Triad Silver LCR and Bronze sub in-walls). I just use an Apple TV there. The PC is technically connected to the living room as well through a ~35' HDMI 2.1 fiber cable as that were I most often use it; however, when I want to game in the theater (for now) I just cable swap to an HDMI plugged into the Marantz. The equipment racks sits in our storage room on the other side of the wall from the theater, so easy cabling access and I didn't need to built it in or do anything super fancy with the rack since it's in that room.

I've been dabbling with crypto mining (hence double GPUs) on the PC since January so it does a lot more of that than gaming (it was built intended for gaming), so we will see what the future holds with it. We also have a Switch connected in the living room.

Control4 controls both entertainment spaces as well as various items throughout the entire house. Pictures are a little old, but I haven't changed too much in the room. There's an old C4 remote pictured there, but we upgraded to the NEEOs in both entertainment areas some months ago. The cheap folding table behind the couch is also gone and there's a nice couch table back there. I also keep my wife's last gen iPad mini sitting on a charging dock on the couch table in the theater room for quick grab use.

The couch was from Ikea. With one row and focused family use, we wanted a couch vs. theater chairs. We can still comfortably get 2 families (adults and kids) in the room as the couch is ~14' wide. The blankets were hand-made by my aunt as the basement room can often be chilly. Pillows and bean bags from Target.

I still need to pick up an original Return of the Jedi poster, frame it, and hang it in that empty wall space over on the right-hand (nonentry door) wall. Lastly, on the far right is an air purifier I keep running in there on low. We keep the door closed all the time to keep the cats out, so the purifier catches dust and particles from the HVAC blowing in.

That's how I always imagined @CINERAMAX IOPH Home Theatre

You be surprised, Peter is into the equipment more than the aesthetics, as am I. The theaters in my homes are for watching movies and screening content, I don't put much into flash. I do have dedicated spaces, ranging from 15' x 26' (12' ceiling) on the smaller end (Florida), to 24' x 40' (14' ceiling on the upper end (Hawaii). I isolate the spaces from the rest of the house by building a room within a room (isolation mounts, etc.), minimum two rows, riser 2nd and 3rd rows (if a 3rd). Walls and ceiling treated. I only use Black and Gray GOM acoustic material for walls and ceiling, no colors, posters, etc. (do have sconce lights, but basic). The theater doors are 12 layers, steel in the center, weigh in at 375 pounds, and when they close there's a mechanism built into the door that pushes out a 1" rubber seal around all of the edges to completely seal off the door to keep sound in the theater. I used the same doors in all the theaters, but they're no longer in business. Being basically Black and Gray interiors, you won't find any of my theaters showing up in a magazine, and that's fine with me.

Note: I'm NOT saying Peter doesn't care about aesthetics, he certainly has done some incredible work for clients over the years, but I believe he elects to keep his personal system(s) equipment focused (but he may correct me on this point, I haven't seen his latest setup).

It must be a reflection, but in the second picture, third rack from left, the top Strato (or is that a Terra?) looks like it has an optical drive.

BTW, it’s cool to see all of those components in one spot.

Yeah, it looks like it has an optical drive but I assure you that it doesn't. Keep in mind that these racks have a bunch players and servers in them that have been put together using prototype boards and bare metal chassis and cases that never went into production.
