Recently I have noticed higher download rates.....I used to reliably get 8-11min downloads but now they are often 15+

Nothing has changed on my end with regards to network and ISP... All the various speeds tests I have done show 980+. Downloading movie size files from internet on computers reliably shows ~875+.

No big deal really...just curious.

Fwiw, the forum has been quite sluggish as well recently. Been noticing this trend especially in the last 48 hrs.

You SSD people still have it good ;)

Butttt, yes, that's actually a significant increase in download time
An SSD isn't required to hit those download times with 4K HDR files. My Terra (30TB) easily meets that.

Mine have been fine doing some of the cinematic updates. I’m assuming the forum has been slow because of the recent PHP vulnerability and all the providers were scrambling to fix things because loads of websites I frequent had issues.

Hmm, no luck figuring out where the problem might be. Every "speedtest" I know to use shows getting avg of upwards of 900-920...but I know those tests really are not all that useful.

I did download a 80gig test file on my laptop and got around 850. Even XBOX and Playstation store are getting good numbers which is rare.

All my iperf3 tests locally show expected numbers. EVen plugged a laptop into the Stratos switch port just to verify not something odd going on in chain.

So something specific to Kstore + my ISP or the Strato itself. Its Spectrum so maybe some new throttling specific for Kstore.

Just gotta live with it as i have absolutely zero other choices for ISP where I live.

I get similar speeds. My downloads have ranged from a high of 872Mbps to a low of 496Mbps (on a Friday night). It's not my connection, because I can easily max out 1.2Gbps downloading from Steam at any time.

Obviously I couldn't hit that speed with the Kaleidescpe, because it's got a slow 1Gbps Ethernet port, but the port should only drop it down to 900-something Mbps; I believe it's Kscape's servers that are the limiting factor here.

K-Scape's servers are Amazon Web Services. Kaleidescape itself can't really control whether or not we get the last 10-20% speed.

Oh yeah, I'm getting half speeds. I was getting 400 mbs but now:

I don’t think it’s K servers. I just completed a 4K download at avg speed of 1913Mbps. I noticed much bigger swings when I had a Strato V in standalone though. Maybe write speed related?

I'm re-downloading most of my library and I think I'm also seeing slower speeds. It's definitely not the ~165 Mbps I was seeing in the early days.

Yes, it's wired. My interwebs is 1 Gbps fibre and I get over 1000 Mbps if you ask my Xbox ;)

EDIT: Although today's downloads do seem to hit the average of about 165 Mbps 🤷‍♂️ Maybe my 'Scape is just too slow to be affected by this :p

Just finished going down a rabbit whole with AI about this...lot of back and forth running tests to conclude:

Code:
single-stream software design constraints on the Kaleidescape content delivery network

The Final Diagnosis
Your Infrastructure: Flawless. Your router, switches, cabled paths, and DNS configurations are executing at peak gigabit performance [Wed, Oct 28, 2026 @ 11:01 AM, Wed, Oct 28, 2026 @ 11:06 AM, Wed, Oct 28, 2026 @ 12:56 PM].
The Bottleneck: The cloud servers delivering the data (such as the Amazon AWS S3 buckets used by Kaleidescape) are far enough away that the geographical latency, combined with minor routing packet drops on your ISP's peering links, mathematically caps any single TCP thread.

When a system uses multiple parallel download connections (like your 16-stream test), it easily hits 942 Mbps because it bypasses this single-thread latency constraint [Wed, Oct 28, 2026 @ 11:01 AM]. Since the Kaleidescape downloads via a single or limited connection architecture, it is bound by the single-stream limits of the open internet path [Wed, Oct 28, 2026 @ 11:03 AM]. Your home network cannot be optimized any further to fix this—it is performing perfectly.

Yeah..I know could be AI slop....but was interesting set of tests it had me do.

This is completely inaccurate.
Downloads to Kaleidescape servers make multiple simultaneous SSL connections -- 16 if you want to be precise.
Yeah like I said...."AI". =P

The only thing interesting I found was that testing on my linux laptop....comparing 16 -vs- 1 against large test file....With 16 I would get the 950+....with 1 I would get between 500-600 which matches what I get from K these days. The stats for the various switch ports in my Unifi network show 0 drops or retrans. I have flow control on and smart queue off. Kinda at a loss as to what is going on....both my XBOX and PS5 get good numbers(850-900)....as do the laptops, etc d/l from steam...in terms of large files, its just K where I get the slower speeds. Also, I do not watch and download at the same time.

Well, why then just stop using it? It gets really annoying people throwing all that AI guessing into the discussion and the people in the know have to read it all and correct it...
Hmm, I was glad to get response correcting the false info...helps me in continuing to figure out what might be going wrong. I had no idea about the whole multiple simultaneous SSL connections....so I learned something useful.

So, you barf some AI slop, @J.Green has to spend time correcting you so everyone isn’t misinformed, but you still pat yourself on the back?

Good numbers :)

Looking like its something on my end for sure.

Just did about 5 downloads during various times today and all were 500-600. :(
