NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

Did some quick tests today with both our AltitudeCI and 16 (both HDMI 2.1 board, inputs set to 2.1). Between the Christie M-4K25 projector (HDMI 2.0) and the Trinnov output 2 sits the Envy Extreme MK2. All devices in the rack connected via Kordz 8K cables. The connection between the Envy output and the Christie is a CelerityTec HDMI 2.1 full-fiber cable.
OSD on the K was set to "auto" which set it to 60hz 3840x2160. I tested with 4KC DV, 4KC HDR10 and 4KC SDR content.
With both Altitudes, I got an immediate, stable connection. Switching back and forth between the OSD and movie content (I also played the 8K demo clip).
However, when I turned the system down and up again, I got just a black image on the projector. It seemed as if the chain was really outputing a black image, as I didn´t see a "no signal" message neither from the Envy, nor the projector. I could also see the K OSD on my preview monitor which is connected to the bypass port of Envy.
Both the Envy and the Altitude (CI in this case) reported a valid incoming signal (checked via the Envy IPControl tool).
A reboot of the Envy resolved the issue and I got the K OSD on both the monitor and the projector.
So in my case, the Envy seems to be the issue. Especially with the observation that the output port was outputing an image.
Unfortunately, I don´t have any more time to do more troubleshooting as the units I have here are already sold again.
I had the same thing, a black screen after a power cycle. Also had to reboot the Envy. That was with a Novastar mx2000 with a ledwall as the display. It went totally haywire after a switching from 3d to 2d. Envy crashed and the bootscreen came on. I am not cycling power on the Trinnov or Envy until my Kordz cables come in and after watching a couple of movies this week without any black screens. I will play around this weekend and see if I can replicate the problems and report back.

@MikeKobb now that K is using more modern SoCs, are there any plans to implement the missing trick play features such as slow motion and frame advance from pause?
I would also like them to add skip forward (10 seconds or so) and if you're watching one version of a title (like the Cinematic DV version), you can then choose another version (like Cinematic HDR10) and continue from the same position you left on the C DV version, instead of having to start all over again.

Skip forward would be nice and so would an actual scrub feature where you could drag your finger on the elapsed time bar on the app to scrub to a specific spot.

For your last one I think that would require them to do the portable bookmarks project that they've mentioned on this forum and that would also help with preserving user scenes and scripts when changing versions.

Sorry if this has been answered but has the issue with 4KC Dolby versions been fixed for displays that don't support Dolby Vision on the K?

I don't suppose you've tried the 40Gbps AVPro Edge 4x2 HDMI 8K60 Matrix Switcher? I believe I am trying to address the same concerns you are, but was thinking a 4x2 matrix should be fine. And the 4x2 matrix just happens to be 40Gbps, not 48Gbps, and so maybe it will work? Of course, it would be good to understand what the root cause of your issue is -- please post here when you and AVPro figure it out!
As an update, I just bought and received the 40Gbps 4x2 matrix. Unlike the 48Gbps 4x4, the 40Gbps matrix does pass Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD-MA to my Arcam without issue (either directly or through the 4x4). I have the Strato K connected to the 4x2, which is connected to an input on the 4x4, then it outputs to the Lumagen and Arcam using separate outputs.

Seems like the issues with the Strato K are with the 48Gbps products (both the matrix and distribution amplifier) but not the 40Gbps products (both the matrix and distribution amplifier), at least for AVPro Edge devices.

Nothing that we're prepared to announce. What trick-play features would you specifically want? Anything besides slow-motion and frame advance?

I would like to see a skip forward, similar to the skip back that they have now. Also, I would love to see a feature where if you’re watching a 4K version like DV and decide to go to the HDR10 version, it gives an option to continue where we left off rather than starting the beginning again.

I liked and used many of the trick play features that my OPPO 203 had:
* slow motion with speeds of 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2.
* Pausing and then slow motion at one of the above speeds.
* frame advance, as mentioned

Scrubbing with little thumbnails on the app or a timebar on the screen with thumbnails would be icing on the cake.

One thing I forgot to ask is what temperature are people’s K’s running at?

I’ve noticed mine is much cooler than the Strato V 20C cooler to be precise so quite a significant drop! It had been at 36C but currently idling at 40C.

37C here.

I think my V was around the same, but honestly don't remember.

Strato K is 34C for me.

My new 30TB Terra is also 34C but the older 8TB is 39C - all are mounted in a 42U rack and the area is controlled to 23C

@MikeKobb Another useful feature would be to be able to remotely read the temps, or have email/SNMP alerts generated if out of spec. I've don't think I've missed that anywhere, but it seems odd to report the temps and include visible green/amber/read areas but have no way of monitoring them.

Your dealer can manage this via the dealer´s extranet. As a dealer, you can configure email-notifications for different events to your dealer email-address, but you can also add the enduser-address.
