In theory with the X2 MQTT and HA one could make everything that can be IP controlled IP controlled... Would require quite abit of programming and more complex HA scripts. Thou, would probably not be worth it due to added latency. HA would have to keep track of which activity has been started and then trigger off each remote button press and decide what device to send respective command too (i.e if navigation up button is pressed then....if activity = K then send remote UP command to K, etc)...same for AVR but those would be the same regardless of source device.

In my case...currently with a Harmony...I still use the Harmony to do volume and source navigation control. Everything else is done by HA via device integrations. When I get the X2 will probably do the same....just replace Harmony with X2 where needed.

But if you're going to go through all that trouble, you might as well use the UCR3. With the community integrations available today, especially the HA integration, you could learn it and set it up in half the time of creating all that custom scripting in HA.

Again, if you have the UCR3 in house.

I have always wondered what that IR in port on the Marantz is for. So I could connect a cable from one of the IR blaster ports on the Harmony or X2 hub straight into the IR in on the Marantz....so IR commands are transmitted over wire?
Yep. If you must still deal with IR, then definitely take advantage of those "IR in" ports on Marantz, Kaleidescape players, and other devices when you find them... way more reliable than emitters stuck on the front of your devices. As @DaveN points out, best to use mono 1/8" miniplug cables. super cheap, available on amazon. It's safe to use mono 1/8" splitters too if you need more "wired" Infrared connections.

Xantech makes a whole range of products for 1/8" infrared signal transmission... splitters, emitters, etc.
IR Components | Xantech and more here: Choosing IR | Xantech. If you are planning to split the line more than just once, use on of these powered infrared "connecting blocks". I have their 10-way block and it sends strong signals to both emitters as well as the "ir-in" ports on many of my devices.

I'm a devout and longtime user of the Nevo S70 remotes. I did a search of this forum (I'm new to K Owners Forum) and the only thing I found on this subject was back in 2006 pertaining to the previous Nevo SL.

I have tried to find a replacement remote that is as fully customizable and programmable as the Nevo S70 but have not found anything worthy of my time. Nevo has not been supported in almost 2 decades, yet I find myself comfortable with it. Everytime I need to re-install the software I worry about whether it will work. The Nevo remote itself can be kind of fragile, so I constantly search eBay for listings at reasonable prices to insure I have an extra on hand if one becomes faulty (I have about 6 around the house). They can be found from time to time.

I just recently started using the K ecosystem, so I haven't updated my remotes yet to issue commands to my Strato but have the documentation for building out the remote buttons from hex codes.

I guess I'm just as antiquated as the Nevo remote, but despite my search to find a better remote solution, am still satisfied with the remote.

Interesting. Never even heard of this remote. But I know what it’s like to hold on to a seemingly “perfect” remote for way longer than makes sense. I kept my many URC MX-880 remotes running for maybe 15 years longer than most people because they just worked well, felt right, and did all I wanted. But keeping them updated as my equipment changed with antiquated windows software, and the inability to issue true IP commands or interact with my Home Assistant environment finally proved to me that I had to change.

After trying the Unfolded Remote 3 for several months and then investigating the AVA cinema remote, I ultimately have settled on the Sofabaton X2. While not perfect, it does what I need, and works well with way my equipment now that I’m used to its (many) quirks.
