So if the IDV has an inbuilt player then there's no need for an M300/500? And, is there any prospect that one day in the future it will be possible to write a BR disc to a server from a M500 and not need to store the disc in the IDV, same as what we do now for DVD? Or has Kaleidescape completely abandoned that idea? It's just that there is no prospect of me freeing up 5U of space in the rack and I'd like to store all my BR discs in a box in the cupboard.
That's correct, the IDV has it's own built-in BR import/playback capability.
I believe K continues to pursue the ultimate goal of importing/storing as we currently do for DVD while providing us with an alternative solution. Personally, I have no problem with the current solution as it accomplishes exactly what I've been looking for to deal with my now rather extensive BR collection, and it makes no difference to me that the BR disks are in a vault rather than a box in the attic (cost and space aside). I still get the K experience I've come to rely on when accessing my collection.
