The obvious stars of this period will be The Odyssey and Gone with the Wind. I'm also very curious to see what happens with The Right Stuff. This is a Warner via Criterion release and we've surprisingly seen some of those appear digitally. I'd LOVE to see that happen again.

The Mosquito Bowl is a Netflix movie currently doing it’s short/limited theatrical run before moving (permanently?) to the streamer.

After I posted I realized it’s probably not coming to Kscape. I’ll probably see it in the theaters as I don’t have a Netflix account.

We'll see Gone with the Wind 4K added to the K Store overnight.

During the HD Compatibility Update process for the new players (V/M/E/K) all of the Extras on the prior version were downgraded to SD. These have never been returned to their prior HD state and I'm not sure what to expect tonight. For some titles we've seen K address prior deficiencies and release a newly updated but complete release. However, more recently, we've see partial efforts that saw the 4K added while leaving the HD version crippled.

Let's hope that we get a complete release tonight and this classic titles isn't left on the To Do list.

People are wondering why every new 4K release doesn’t get the Cinematic treatment and here’s K adding a 4K HDR/Dolby Vision title in SDR because subpar releases are the habit K can’t break.

The cover art for Resident Evil, Primetime and Sense and Sensibility are honestly embarrassing at this point. Show me you don't want to put in even the slightest amount of effort without telling me you don't. Absurd how lazy studios are getting with this stuff.

100% with KDeering on the artwork. Half these new releases look like someone spent 30 seconds cropping a poster in Photoshop. For a system built around a giant movie wall interface, you'd think cover art quality control would actually be a priority.

Unfortunately K has no say in this, they are obligated to use the studio provided art and change it when they update it as well (which is why you'll see cover art change frequently for no real reason. Kudos to K though, they do let you change it anytime you want with custom art you can upload.

Just responding to some of the comments in the K Pop thread.

As a counterpoint because I’m probably more aligned with the modern mainstream crowd, I can’t say I’m overly disappointed by the SDR releases because the majority of the time it’s not highly rated films with the new releases at least so they aren’t films I’m personally going to buy or watch whether they are HDR or not.

With the older stuff I’m torn, none of them were filmed with HDR in mind or originally intended to look like the HDR grade so whilst I always get FOMO (and why I bought a Strato K to see the Cinematic stuff myself) I do think generally the balance is pretty good even if I wished more people were interested in top quality for sales to justify a bigger budget/team to get everything in the highest quality. The problem with that is there’s a point where if it sold that much then I think Apple et al. would probably start to give a shit and offer lossless audio for $$$ so I see it as a bit of a catch 22.

I still think it’s a bit of a mad system that there’s a huge charge for the privilege of selling a studios film on a digital store when it’s in their interest for it to sell because they take a big cut anyway. Could you imagine them doing that when there were only physical stores and demanding payment per movie to be allowed to sell the disc?!

For subpar new releases the K argument is basically that it's "good enough", puts a 4K title on the store that people can buy if they want, and the encoding time/server space required for an HDR version could be better spent adding another title. I both understand this position and understand other owners may agree. Personally, I don't.

The K Store is the only digital movie store where I can't simply purchase a title knowing that it's the highest quality available. The need to drill down into formats to see if K's offering matches what's available in the market is a wholly unique discipline. The existence of this discipline and every new owner's need to adopt it violates the spirit of "The Ultimate Movie Store" and all efforts should be taken to eliminate it.

My position is two-fold:

1. If it's not worth getting in the highest quality available, it's not worth getting.

2. A company cannot take the opposing positions that Dolby Vision and now 4K Cinematic are so critical to the ecosystem that they drive all hardware development, updated licensing, and software encoding while also regularly adding subpar releases.

Regarding older titles, here's some examples that are impacted by this issue: The Color Purple, An Officer and a Gentleman, When Harry Met Sally, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Enter the Dragon, Footloose, Face/Off, The Exorcist, Rudy, Up in the Air, West Side Story (1961), and dozens more. K's offerings for these titles should match what is available in the market. Period.

I still think it’s a bit of a mad system that there’s a huge charge for the privilege of selling a studios film on a digital store when it’s in their interest for it to sell because they take a big cut anyway.
We actually don't know if K has to pay a charge per title, we only know that "limited resources" is the driver. Does the HDR/DV version "cost" more upfront? Does the HDR/DV version have a different revenue split? Or, is it purely staff time and server space driving the decision? There very clearly appears to be a "cost" involved, we just don't know the nature of it.

My position is two-fold:

1. If it's not worth getting in the highest quality available, it's not worth getting.

It is quite evident that these subpar releases are not intended for users of this forum. They have marine and other corporate clients that may not care about the missing DV but will care if a new movie is missing from the store. For e.g., someone watching in a stateroom without high-end AV equipment. However, missing new movies altogether is definitely a bad look. Even though I don’t like this approach I think it makes sense from business point of view.[/b]

World War Z has shown up on the Recently Added list like it's about to be updated to Dolby Vision.
It also has a new Movie Update with improved audio & picture like it's also getting a 4K Cinematic release.

Pre-Order Alert: Wildwood in 4K Cinematic Dolby Vision from Shout! Factory:
