US & BR Releases for May & June 2025

Juliet & Romeo (2025) in DV/HDR/UHD/HD with Dolby TrueHD Atmos from NBCUniversal

On Swift Horses (2024) in DV/HDR/UHD/HD with TS-HD Master 5.1 from Sony Pictures

Kingdom of Heaven (Director’s Cut) added in 4K SDR/HDR/Dolby Vision with Dolby TrueHD Atmos from 20th Century (Disney):
Listed as new version and requiring new purchase.
D2D from Director's Cut Disc is $17.48

Based on Kingdom of Heaven’s runtime, I believe this is actually the Roadshow version and not the Director’s Cut. If so, it includes an overture, intermission, and exit music. Can anyone confirm?

Correct. The film start with an Overture and has an Intermission around 1hr40m. :)

Any way to know if the Sinners K-scape release will include both the 2.76 and 1.43 ratios or just 2.76? Thanks.
BTW, photos of the front/back covers of the disc were just released. Confirmed for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Variable Aspect Ratio (VAR).

Now, will this be like Nolan flicks where the disc has VAR and digital is cropped? I think we'll have to wait until release date, unless this information is free to share and a K employee does so.

Doesn't answer the question but interesting video with director discussing aspect ratios of the film and all the various ways they had it available to watch in the theaters. He seems very passionate about how it's viewed. I sure hope they have it as VAR as I can do that in my theater.

In the K-scape store Sinners is listed as 1.78. Doesn’t that mean that it is likely VAR?

No Starman 4K yet. I see that it’s available on AppleTV in 4K. Hope we get it soon. Have been wanting to rewatch this great Carpenter film from the 80’s.

Yeah, it hit digital last year alongside one of the Columbia box sets. It’s so popular, and Sony thinks it will sell so well, that it’s now had a solo release. (I wish they cc’d K on that memo.)

It’s well outside of the “coming but late” window, so it appears K has passed for the time being. Hopefully K will decide to catch up on some Sony 4K catalog titles. Until then, it’s hanging out with Punch Drunk Love and Drive.

Two other films I’ve been waiting for on 4K as well. That is odd. For a while K was putting up the Columbia box set films shortly after release. I wonder what happened. Clearly there’s an audience for these films among K customers.

K’s recipe for a Columbia Box Set: 4 Titles Full Quality, 1 Title Missing HDR, 1 Title Missing. :)

They actually follow this with box sets from others, like the Paramount Scares Box where Sweeney Todd was the surprise release, later getting an individual release, and still in HD on K. Fingers crossed, knock on wood, all of that…

I gotta say, I’m all sorts of conflicted regarding this show, but I am happy to see it on K. As a long-time fan of the books, I should be absolutely offended by the radical changes made to characters, settings, etc. However, I must say that I think this is a quality show. Different, very. But, good in a “forget the books but watch the show” kind of way?

Of course I would have preferred something true to the source, and I think the Cruise/Pitt film captured the vibe better, but I’m glad that this world is getting a new life, even if heavily altered. I mostly feel for folks that become fans of the series and decide to read the books, realizing that they mostly just used character names and broad stroke plot points. With two seasons and the first book behind them, whether this show ends up in the dustbin of failed adaptations or soars as late-stage golden age TV will be decided with the upcoming season (IYKYK).

Um, take that as a recommendation if you will. (I will buy both seasons and hope Season 3 is added as aired like is in on Apple.)

It doesn’t seem like anyone’s mentioned it yet, but one of my favorite movies Brazil is finally coming to 4K disc on June 3. It’s part of the Criterion Collection, so unlikely to come to K.

The digital distribution rights for Brazil remain with Universal (via Focus Features). This is why it's available in HD everywhere (including on K). Now, I don't know of any specific cases where Criterion releases a 4K disc and the 4K master is distributed by the studio, but maybe someone on here does? So, I'd generally assume that we'll have to continue to make do with HD digitally.

Having said that, I've bought the Criterion Brazil collection twice now (DVD & Blu-ray) and have a pre-order in for the next version. Between the different versions and behind-the-scenes stuff it's highly unlikely a digital counterpart could ever live up to the disc set.

You don’t have to make do with the blurry HD version, just buy the 4K disc and add it to your Plex! You see Antoninus, I like oysters AND snails.

I’ve also bought the film from Criterion several times, 4 to be exact if counting the Laserdisc. Plus the original theatrical release poster!
