Strato S freezing & resetting

I’ve been in contact with K about this issue but I’m looking for some experience or insight.

My Strato S has started freezing and resetting. They are saying the time stamps I provided show EDID or cable issue caused by Denon or HDMI. Problem with that is I’ve tried,

1. Changing out all cables to brand new HDMI and Ethernet cables. Certified 2.1 cables fresh out the boxes

2. I ran the video straight to the tv and fed audio through EArc. I also tried using the second HDMI (audio) instead of EArc. Both ways produced freezing issues.

Anyone have issues with Strato S when it’s going to a Denon that’s fully updated

Given that your cables are apparently okay, and the problem persists after bypassing the Denon, it might be a failing hard drive. Did Support check the read/write errors being recorded for the drive? If by "resetting" you mean the Strato-S reboots, it also might be a power supply issue, or perhaps an Ethernet issue.

I've had clients report the same symptoms over the years and the cause was usually one of the those stated by Support, but there have been some that remained undetermined, and those Strato's were either RMA'd under warranty, or scrapped because they were out of warranty. Maybe Support can escalate the problem to engineering to get their opinion.

I swapped out the Ethernet to a brand new cable.

The picture will freeze and look like a satellite tv picture when you lose reception. Then after 20-30 seconds the player reboots. I’d think if it was the power supply it would turn off faster. When I throw the movie back on and it does the same thing. The weird part is no matter how far ahead I get in the movie it always restarts where the initial issue happened.

They read the codes and said EDID. Basically blaming it on the Denon saying it wasn’t up to date with EDID. Then saying I should buy another hdmi product that might fix the issue. That made no sense as it was going through the tv. My Denon is a newer model and it was going through the tv as they suggested I do.

At least it’s still under warranty. The person at K did mention if it continues when I makes the changes suggested they may want to look at it

Just hoping they don’t take to long tooling at it. Heck I’d even swap it for a Terra if given the choice. I plan on buying another used E when they hit the site

If it's under warranty, they should RMA it and swap it for a -R (Remanufactured unit), assuming they have a -R available, otherwise they may repair it, or provide some other option. They like to have your Dealer involved if an "advanced replacement" is requested and available (meaning they'll ship the replacement before they receive your defective Strato), otherwise they'll ship the replacement after they receive your defective unit. It's up to the Dealer to approve the AR because they are responsible for payment if K doesn't receive the defective unit (some do, some don't).

It was purchased through a private sale with someone on this forum.

Okay, if at some point K decides an RMA is required, and they offer an advanced replacement, tell them to run it through my account (CineLife LLC) and that I authorized the AR. Support can check with me if needed, they know how to reach me. Please follow any RMA instructions and properly box and return the Strato-S to K per the address in the RMA (use tracking to prove the return if needed).

WoW… thank you. I will definitely keep that in mind when they contact me. I’ll keep in touch with updates if it goes that far.
