NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

I'm curious on how much the new cinematic format improves motion stutter for systems without any video processing.

Could someone with a K compare regular 4K with 4K cinematic in a panning scene?

A good test is the landscape panning in Hell or High Water (2016).

How many movies would that be and are you taking into consideration the larger 4KC files?
It’s indicating that there are 50 movies downloaded. They comprise HD, 4K and 4K Cinematic. Don’t know how many of each.

Great summary! I do believe the 8TB Terra Compact (non-Prime) is $4,995 MSRP. If buying new, it was the only one I could personally justify.

Thanks @by96. I saw an online dealer listing the 8TB HDD for $6K but "on sale" for $5K. If the Server is listing for $4,995 MRSP, then it makes the costs look better!

Sorry to all the forum users who wish they hadn't seen the Terra price-per-movie. I have hidden it below for those who want the updated chart:

"It's just math"

Unfortunately not yet. I downloaded both Moana and Blade Runner 2049 in Cinematic DV and they were still both wrong. I think only the HDR versions were added to trigger it showing as new.
Yeah...the size of the C_DV encodes of those two didn't change in the slightest. When Batman Begins was fixed and republished it changed by a couple tenths of a GB.

Just coming back from vacation, trying to catch up on the forums. 16 new pages in this thread since July 10th - are you serious? o_O
Short summary of any new conclusions anyone? :giggle:

Strato K installed today. Before I start comparing non cinematic to cinematic 4k I clicked on the info button on mad vr and confirmed Project Hail Mary input from the K is at 4:4:4 on the cinematic 4k HDR version. Then I put on the 8K short film and noticed the input into the madvr from the K is coming in at 4k. I did follow the madvr set up guide, tried a different hdmi cable, bypassed the Marantz and got the exact same result. Any other troubleshooting ideas?
Mine is getting 8K at 4:2:0. I don’t use MadVR though
It’s all good. Just that my BS detector goes up any time I see a first time post which begins in a scintillating fashion.

You had the V since it came out, but you never felt like joining the forum? Anyways all the best with your HT journey.

Yes, I've used the remote that came with the V for my E and K as well. Comes in handy when you first get the players because your universal remotes don't have the setting applied yet.
You can use the mobile app for the initial set up. That’s how I set up my K when I first got it instead of looking for the remote from the my V. But yeah, another let down on the K, it should have been included

I have downloaded most films to my Terra server as HDR 10 cinematic. My K goes to a Lumagen 5348 and from here audio to my Storm and video out to a JVC NZ9. I know the Lumagen can’t display 4:4:4 but downscales to 4:2:2. I don’t have the LLDV enabled on the Lumagen for a Dolby vision display. I am wondering any with similar setup are you using the LLDV on the Lumagen or just sticking with HDR 10 on the Lumagen?

I didn’t realize forum join date was part of the ownership test? Maybe I missed that from Strato K’s owner manual. I was simply sharing a direct comparison between Strato V and Strato K from my system. Sometimes the emperor’s new clothes looks remarkably similar from the listening seat. I’ll leave it there, and good luck on your HT journey too.

No not at all. I was just surprised that you didn’t jump in to complain about all the issues which were associated with the V. it was full of issues since inception. You see the K has barely been out for a month and you wasted no time to express your frustration immediately. So kudos to you for putting up with the V for so long and keeping your cool.

You can use/order the same remote as the V. No specific K remote.
Yes but if you’re turning on the player, use the phone app to turn on and subsequently use the V remote to navigate. If you turn on either the K or V with the old V remote, both players (v&k) will wake up simultaneously. I learnt this the hard way. Lol.

I might order another remote at some point but the phone app has been awesome and held its own quite admirably.

My Strato K arrived today. It's taking three hours to download a 4Kc movie. The picture quality is terrific, better than my Strato C. However I prefer the Premiere system experience for watching movies. M700 + 7.1 surround sound is a better experience than Strato K 2.0 PCM (my Krell AV processor does not support 4K, hence why I'm limited to stereo). And Premiere also lets me play my collection of music CD's which Strato does not. Time now to look for a Co-Star to unify my Strato C + Premiere OSD.

Are you using the "coaxial" connection? According to K's spec, HDMI provides PCM (up to 7.1ch, 96kHz/24-bit) (lossless).
