NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

Good news! Kaleidescape said that this title was waiting on an update to their conversion tools. That update will be finished shortly, and then titles that depended on that update will be processed, including the Mahler. Assuming that no issues arise, it should be converted and available in the next couple of weeks.
Showed up in the HD Compatibility list:

That’s great, I’ve been waiting for the Mahler to be converted. That was the last one on my lengthy list and now its all completed!

Try and watch speed racer without the lumagen (DV/ HDR10 conv.) and see If it replicates the same behavior. Possible way to eliminate one of the variables.
I’ll give it a try this weekend, unless K Support beats me to a fix!

I’d prefer not to lose all my Lumagen goodies if I can help it.

1. Plenty. We all know when there's a new phone or computer or TV or Gaming console coming.
2. If I had bought a year ago I would not be having buyers remorse because like you said you've got a years use out of the leading edge of what is available in terms of content to feed your high end home cinema. But in my case because i only bought like 2-3 weeks before it was announced I feel completely rugpulled and blindsided by Kscape.
3. Buying the E is thousands of dollars anyway. You don't invest in a Stratto to permanantly be locked into 2nd best right after you bought, otherwise why would you bother just get a 4k bluray player and have the budget for hundreds of movies.
4. If they told me the K was coming and it got delayed I would have waited and not spent the money.
5. Sure there maybe even more players coming in time and you got to draw the line somewhere but having shelled out thousands, I feel I have really screwed up and on the wrong side of that line. I feel huge regret like I bought the blackberry just before the Iphone came out. Doesn't mean the Blackberry wasn't a capable phone, but it's about missing out on 4k Cinematic altogether. Newer future players might have more features, but it would still be running on 4k Cinematic at the end of the day.
6. Kscape kept this under wraps, not a peep out of anybody and nobody knew about it. My dealer had no idea about it. Thats why I feel so betrayed by Kscape. They could have let potential customers make an informed choice whether to wait and stretch to a K or stick with the E or V. Now there's a group of recent customers like myself all feeling like they have been rugpulled.
Nah, you don't need to feel regret. The backlog of orders is probably 6 months at least now. By the time you could have gotten a K, it would have been a year with your E. I am in the same boat as you. I got my E 6 months ago. I am actually happy I have it since I imagine I am going to be waiting on my K for awhile still. I just replaced a 6 year old LG CX 76 inch OLED with a Hisense RGB 85 incher. It cost 1/3rd what a new G series OLED would have cost me and it looks stunning with the E (and with Sony putting one of the final nails in the coffin for physical media this week, I don't think buying a Blu Ray player would have been a better move).

Most pending orders for the K should be filled within the next 6 weeks or so, with releases every couple /few weeks until caught up, but you are correct, the queue gets bigger every day.

The FOMO is strong with this one! :)

I think it is a bit different with Strato K than just FOMO. We have finally seen progress in home media after a long time. For years, it seemed that K was playing catch up and it took a really long time for them to add DV to the player. Now K has added something that makes them theoretically better than disc and streaming. Even if the quality improvement is 5% or less, sometimes you just want to own the best version possible of the movies you like.

Dont get me wrong....i see from a tech pov how this Strato K and 4kC is better..... I just wonder how big a factor everything else in the chain plays a factor...expensive video processors,etc... Is someone with a basic system...Strato to avr to projector going to see a quantifiable improvement!

That's fair. So far reviews are positive. Generally, I think higher bit rate will help regardless and there is nothing else on the market that supports this. I was watching youtube 1080p enhanced content (premium plan) yesterday and thought it looked good but when I switched to blu ray, I could see some fast moving scenes were much better just due to higher bit rate.

Or maybe we will see 8K scan of 70MM IMAX Odyssey land on K (I mean Mike Kobb did mention that they are asking studios to license 8K during one of the podcasts) :)

The higher bit rate is perhaps the only thing I can actually say temps me! The rest seems link buzzword bingo!

The chroma aspect can get overhyped, but it’s a real plus. 4:2:2 DV or 4:4:4 HDR10 is objectively better than previous 4:2:0.
Oh ...I have had the talk with wife...pretty sure she is open to opening up the purse strings assuming I can convince myself its worth it...luckily it seems I have a few months (due to stock) to wait for more feedback! I really hope to hear something from folks that have similar setup as mine!

I sold 2 yr old V last week and hoping to get K delivered it in couple of weeks. I didn’t lose much as there seems to be good demand for V as well. There are some good dealers on the forum that can help with K.

Just finished watching F1 (cinematic HDR10 / 4:4:4). I also decided to compare few scenes on Atv plus (very crisp stream, plus apple owns the rights for this film) and the DV version on my V. Imho, F1 has a very muted palette with slight banding which appears in certain sky shots during race days. This was evident on both the Apple stream and to a lesser degree on the V. I was struggling to pick this up on the cinematic version.

Plus the facial expressions/ skin tones appear more organic and defined. I felt the same way when I watched The Gentlemen (C-HDR10) few days ago. I have the 4k disc for The Gentlemen as reference. This has a similar murky/ gloomy tone like F1. But it resolved better through the cinematic version. Makes me think that slightly less impactful presentations benefit the most via cinematic.

Well, the biggest factor in the chain is... how good the movie is! If it's an outstanding movie that I'm watching for the first time, I'd be too engrossed with the movie to care whether it's 4K or 4KC. If it's just an okay or less than okay movie, I'd definitely be watching closely how 4KC may be better than 4K!

Kind of the annoying part is if I were to move my Strato C to a secondary room in favor of the Strato K, I guess the storage needs would be 2.5 times (for a copy of 4K and a copy of 4KC) if one wanted to keep all purchased movies locally?

Yeah we tend to get hung upon specs...but in the end what matters is how good the movie is. Tech wise...Moonfall is excellent...do i want to watch it again? hell no!

My whole family could pick out the 4KC as being better on playback in our living room when blind testing them on a couple of movies. That’s the K straight to a 98” TV and a few people that don’t know or care much about this stuff.
