NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

I dragged up all the titles I could find with 8K scans for the entirety of the picture:

Oppenheimer
Dirty Harry
The Wizard of Oz
Ben-Hur
The Sound of Music
2001: A Space Odyssey
My Fair Lady
West Side Story (1961)
Gone With the Wind
Lawrence of Arabia
Purple Rain
Seven
Baraka
Samsara
Lethal Weapon
Sinners
Rebel Without a Cause
North by Northwest
High Society
The Searchers
Doctor Zhivago
Hello, Dolly!
Oklahoma!
Patton
Pale Rider
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
South Pacific
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
The Fugitive (1993)
Dunkirk

I'm pretty sure this is accurate but let me know if I missed something. More than I thought once I put them all on one list. There's also likely more than what I found via open-source reporting (Warner alone says they have 20 titles in the can as of the middle of last year).

That said, it doesn't mean these were all actually finished in 8K and that there's a file on the shelf ready for distro. Big difference.

Like most people I'm more excited about the 4K refinement than the introduction of 8K (even though I have an 8K display I watch daily). Cool info though...there was a couple titles I didn't realize were 8K scans.
These seem like most of them are very old movies, except for Dunkirk & Oppenheimer. I wonder if these would look any better than the 4K versions being that they are so old?

Having dithered over upgrading from my old Premium system for the last couple of years I finally bought a Strato V + 30TB Terra just last week. As you might imagine I was feeling slightly less pleased with myself when I woke up this morning to learn Kaleidescape had announced a new flagship model - the Strato K.

I must therefore give a big shout out to Keith Harris of TouchstoneAV for immediately securing Kaleidescape’s agreement to change to this new flagship model despite this bundle having already shipped!

Already impressed by the great deal Touchstone AV had secured for me in the first place - and for Keith’s patience and the way he made me feel there were no daft questions - I will be forever grateful to them for moving so swiftly this morning.

Very excited to be the proud owner of a new Strato K when the first batch arrives in the UK in July!

Great customer care and a terrific team effort from Kaleidescape, distributer and dealer.

that's great! Congrats on your new Strato K... probably among the very first in the U.K.
Encourage Keith to join here and request a Dealer credential on his account so he can see your accolades and participate here if he wishes.

Thank you! And yes, I will contact Keith. I am new on here and still finding my way, but that sounds like a good idea.

Going through the 157 titles which have received the Cinematic treatment so far (emphasis on so far), I already own 122 of those. That’s a good head start I would think.

I just ordered a Strato K and I know that I will need to download the Cinematic 4K versions to replace any HDR10 and SDR that are on my current system. My TV also does DolbyVision while my current Strato doesn't. Should I also replace any HDR10 versions that aren't out in Cinematic 4K but are out in DV with the DV versions? Is DV that much better than HDR10?

I was counting mine earlier today and got 123. lol

Seeing all those ready to go is really giving me a severe case of the upgraditus. Thankfully they were cool about it and didn't decide to charge us more to get the next step up.

The downloads, begun they have.

Sorry, that was bad. it's just so easy to get dramatic ... about 4K Cinematic.

This makes me want to separate my systems to have a pure Cinematic Terra to start things off.

Assuming you're a projector user, will you download the Cinematic SDR versions as well for comparison?

@KDeering -- I assume C SDR is in Rec. 709 colorspace vs the wider Rec. 2020 for C HDR/DV? Whether one can tell the difference--display capability notwithstanding--is debatable.

That’s true but they get your money for the K. lol. So it’s win win either ways.

I wonder if the remote that came with the Strato V will work for the K? It was pretty handy when installing the V. So just wondering.

Well I am very interested in upgrading to the new Strato K. I recently upgraded from a Strato C which I used for my projector to the V to use with my new LG G6 with great results. So it looks like I’m going to be selling the Strato C and V in the near future. 😀
So I woke up this morning and decided to pull the trigger on the Strato K, went to the dealer and ordered it. The expected delivery date is June 27th.

I am! And that’s a great idea. I’ll grab those as well and compare them. Happy to share my impressions.

Funnily enough, my Terra is already a cinematic server, just lower case. I’ve reverted all my TV, concerts, and HD back to Plex, and focus my K system on 4K movies. Partially to be efficient with space, but also because there’s no user-managed file structure in K. I’m creating my own top-line 4K core movies file folder by pruning everything else out.

Edited: nevermind, I found my answer in this thread!
