Will the Strato K player be compatible with the upcoming Dolby Vision 2 format? Is it anticipated that there will be a future 4K Cinematic Dolby Vision 2 format on K?
It is run by a group of enthusiastic Kaleidescape owners and dealers purely as a service to this community.

LOL now we have to remember how to spell Kaleidescape. This DOES all raise another strange forum issue. For literally decades now, many of us often just use "K" as a substitute for "Kaleidescape"... meaning the company, the ecosystem, the whole service... and now I can already see people (me included) just using "K" to refer to the Strato K player.
Already happened on another thread when someone used "K" for the company and I misread it as Strato K.
That will be the death of me. I just can't do it. I have to double check it every time!LOL now we have to remember how to spell Kaleidescape.
What about Kscape?LOL now we have to remember how to spell Kaleidescape.
Thanks for your order! Hope you enjoy your Strato K as much as I enjoy mine.Ordered! This is awesome, can’t wait!
You will need to have a non-4K-Cinematic version downloaded for your Strato E. The 4K Cinematic titles won't even appear on the Strato E's OSD since it can't play them. What will happen if I download a 4k Cinematic movie to watch in my theater on the Strato K, but want to watch that movie in my Living Room on my Strato E? Will I have to maintain 2 copies on my Terra, one 4k Cinematic and one 4k HDR10?
The Strato K will operate the same way as the Strato V/Strato E: if you group it with a Terra server, the internal storage of the Strato K is disabled and any content on the drive is erased. You'll need to redownload any of that content to your Terra. Can the internal 960 GB SSD of the Strato K be combined with the Terra server storage?
If not, will there be a Strato K player with no storage made available? Seems like it would be a waste of money to pay for a hard drive you can't use.
You could test yours if you have a PC connected in 4:4:4 and switch between the two. There is some difference on the desktop that I’ve seen but harder to notice in games. It’s why PC users have always used RGB/4:4:4 because it makes a much bigger difference with text and desktop usage than in video content. Thanks for this info!
Realistically, would downsampled 4:2:2 coming from the LRP be noticeably better than the 4:2:0 of the V passing through the LRP?
Honestly, with it being SSD, it should be the unit to download stuff from the internet, and then copy it over the local LAN to the Terra / Terra Prime when idle. I've suggested storage management for all local storage devices before as a feature I'd love to see.The Strato K will operate the same way as the Strato V/Strato E: if you group it with a Terra server, the internal storage of the Strato K is disabled and any content on the drive is erased. If/when you switch the Strato K back to standalone mode, the internal storage drive is reactivated (but will be empty).
In my case, the 8K OLED is in the secondary location where I'm planning on leaving it. The primary viewing area is where the 110" TV is which is not 8K capable. It's exciting to see @josh having seen the content first-hand with a positive experience. Good to know definitively that the other players won't show the 4Kc content from a server as well. I predict a lot of players in main zones being moved to secondary zones with the K taking the prime position.
I have to admit...since the news of the Strato K and this new format I have had some of the same thoughts.Given the limits of visual acuity I can't imagine many people benefiting all that much from 8K other than perhaps bragging rights. Improved chroma resolution and fewer compression artifacts combined with a better quality encoding process would seem to benefit much more people so the 4K cinematic format seems to be the real standout here and if I am interpreting things correctly might actually look better than 8K for most people due to possibly less compression. Indeed it looks like with appropriate QC of encodes K could finally fulfil the dream of better than disc which is most welcome.
The push towards 8K does however make K's decisions, many of which are quite recent, to pass over 4K encodes in favour of HD quite puzzling.
Content is king so K do really need to sort out the HD and alternative cut omissions but if they do they might be on to a winner. I wouldn't' like to think though that regular 4K might still get left out and for the choice to be between HD or 4K cinematic.

Speaking of that, I was just about to post this but thought it might be better to reply to your post:I have to admit...since the news of the Strato K and this new format I have had some of the same thoughts.
I really hope we do not end up in a situation where there is only the HD and "4k Cinematic" version of new titles.
Also, I hope my OCD does not start freaking out seeing all the "4k Cinematic" tags on everything knowing I cannot play them. =P Personally I think the "4k Cinematic" stuff should not show up on the web page unless you have a Strato K. Then again, I also thought defaulting to downloading DV version when there is no DV display was odd.
