NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

Can the poster wall be set to something other than 60fps?
Yes - call up components in a web browser (in the address bar, type in the ip address of the player/components). Go to Settings/Advanced Video Settings and change OSD Refresh Rate to which option you prefer.

Thanks. Is there a way to keep the OSD in HDR to avoid handshaking for most movies?

I like the remote also except for the fact that is IR and my K player is in my equipment rack that I do not have line of sight to. I wish they would have made it RF or Bluetooth.
Can't you run an inexpensive IR Repeater into your equipment room which will be useful as a backup in case RF or Bluetooth fails. Very easy and inexpensive.

My Kaleidescape is sitting right in front of me, but I still hate the IR, because I've been trained by every other device to not bother pointing the remote at anything in particular. So I'll sit there being frustrated at how slow it's responding to a command, and then realize that it never actually got that signal, because I wasn't doing the old-school pointing.

Yes, thank you. I just found a couple of options that will make that work.

Not that I'm aware of.
I thought this was the purpose of the "Minimize display mode changes" in Video Output Behavior? Then you set your Advanced Video Settings and the player is always outputting in that resolution/depth even on the OSD. Or am I mistaken?

Not HDR. The OSD is always SDR and the reference for "Minimize display mode changes".
I´d appreciate a setting to permanently switch the OSD into HDR as well.

What do you mean by "OSD"? Do you mean the overlays on movies when it pauses or when you look at info, or do you mean core UI screens outside of a movie?

Let me jump in here and correct some misinformation posted.

If you want your OSD to remain in HDR mode (either HDR10 or Dolby Vision), you can make the following settings changes:
  1. Change the Video Output Behaviour to "Avoid video mode changes"
  2. Under Advanced Options, change High Dynamic Range Format to either "Prefer HDR10" or "Prefer Dolby Vision Standard" as is your want.
If you make those two settings changes, your OSD will remain in either HDR10 or Dolby Vision mode per your selection for item 2. Note, however that your video output when playing movies will also be in that mode so either always HDR10 or always Dolby Vision.

There is no setting change you can make that will have the OSD in an HDR mode but still allow movies to play in their native HDR colour spaces..

I have a Strato C and don't see either option present. For Video Output Behavior, I have "Minimize, Allow, or Allow (external scaler). And under Advanced Options I don't see a High Dynamic Range Format option either.

I guess these are for the K, and possibly the other players?

Let me start off by saying that I love the picture that the Strato K presents. Having said that, it seems that it wasn't a fully baked product. This is based on my own experience with the issues the Strato has communicating with the Trinnov. You'd think that they would have had this all worked out ahead of time. The fact that I even have to consider an extra device to help the two devices work properly is damning. Yes, I'm very frustrated. Frustrated enough to downgrade to a previous Strato? Nope.

What device are you using to bridge the communication?

I have a Strato K and a Trinnov and a MadVR in my system without any problems. Works perfectly.

Hm, my understanding is that with the "Avoid video mode changes", you´ll also prevent the player from switching framerate for playing content (=stays at the selected OSD framerate) which is something I clearly don´t want.
And what happens to the colorspace? Will that be converted by the player to prevent SDR-to-HDR (or vice versa) changes. If yes, that´s also something I clearly don´t want.
Actually, it would be preferrable to be able to select the OSD apperance in terms of framerate and dynamic range and still have the player to play the content as it is without touching it.

These are my questions as well, and agree with your suggestion on how it should work.

On the frame-rate, in order to minimize HDMI handshake times, most set the OSD to 24 fps (also suggested in the madVR setup guide). Since the vast majority of content is 24 fps, this works well. Technically while most are 23.976, I have come across a few that are 24, and that switch does add several seconds to the handshake.

The main downside is that scrolling the UI isn't as smooth at 24 fps, even with MotionAI in use, but if it helps the handshake times, I'm okay with that.

How do you configure yours, and if different from the above, I'm curious about your reasoning. And do you see "avoid" rather than "minimize" in your settings options?

Thanks.
