Strato K - latest backlog status & shipping info

Mine was ordered July 23rd. I knew going in there was at least a month backorder. I am just hoping I have it in time for an event we are doing in September. Because I bought a server, my dealer loaned me a Strato C to play with till it gets here. Even if it doesn't come in by then I am still going to use the KScape to run my demos. I was just hoping to be able to show any differences with the new format. I still have hope.

I would love to find out how many K units have been sold so far, just to get an idea of the real demand numbers. I won’t hold my breath waiting for this info though. I would really like to know how many of us wackos are out there.

Well, I ordered my Strato K “way back” on 6/18 and got an early S/N … 229. Where they’re at now, and where they’ll end up, are interesting questions.

Well, my Jul-6 order just arrived last night and the serial number is just under 600 so that gives you some idea.

Maybe they’ll do 1,000 this year if production can meet that? I’d imagine they’re about halfway through the initial order wave but then there probably was another bump after AA Live then they’ll have holiday orders … total speculation on my part though.

Cedia might bring in more orders, although most of the attendees there would know about the Strato K one would think. What is good for K is good for us right?

Those numbers are why people should realise why these things are so expensive, the high end market is so small when you consider there are 600,000 TV’s sold everyday!

I was curious what numbers Trinnov do and they say they are just under 10,000 installs (in 12 years for the 32 and 9 for the 16) 2000 of which are professional non-consumer setups. So they are basically selling less than 1000 a year which again is why they are so expensive when hardware costs are nowhere near that but nobody complains about their prices?!

It’s the same reason I don’t think Apple, Netflix et al. will ever upgrade to loseless audio, it’s simply not worth it when 99.9% of the market don’t have the hardware to hear the difference and it’s not like music where the audio is the main/only thing and you just need a decent pair of comparatively cheap headphones. Plus it’s much easier and cheaper for them to implement without impacting overall service bandwidth. On top of that we had Covid which showed the infrastructure itself isn’t equipped to deal with increased streaming bandwidth usage so I just don’t see it happening.

Anyway going off on a tangent now, my dealer offered me his extra demo unit order which he keeps selling each time he orders 😂. Should mean I get it a little sooner but I’m not in any rush. Hopefully no other upgrades get announced to tempt me because between this, the 8TB Mini Terra Prime SSD and the electric masking screen due in October, I’ve somehow spent a lot more than £0 I’d planned to!

Well, if you look into the Trinnov threads in the forums, it´s actually the same discussion. Ripping the components apart, saying it´s basically a PC and what´s so expensive about it. Exactly the same with Kaleidescape - you pay for the overall solution, not the parts.

A big difference is that Trinnov will refresh units to extend warranty and repair units out of warranty. No reports of bricks there.

I can’t say I’ve noticed it on the UK forums at least, certainly not to the same extent as the complaints against Kaleidescape. MadVR is my personal bugbear because it was free software you could run on any PC and then they decided the lock features behind a hardware paywall and it literally is just a PC and doesn’t even have multiple HDMI inputs!

All that being said, they’ve created a quality bit of software and I can’t fault them for wanting to make money off their hard work and I personally always favour upfront cost over never ending subscriptions. I just don’t like the physical hardware.

My order went in on either 6/18 or 6/19. I have Strato K number 254. It was at my dealer’s warehouse by July 7 (they took a picture of the box for me that day). I was not able to get it installed until July 28 because we were waiting on some speakers. It was well worth the wait!

Last week my sales guy told me he had finally placed his order for his own Strato K. He was told he would get it in 4 months.
