Stewart screen damage

So.... I'm bummed. I moved to a new home a couple of months ago. Wrapped my Stewart 100'' screen carefully in bubble wrap and cardboard and tape. A friend and I did have to carry it down 15 flights of stairs, but we were as careful as possible. Since then the screen's been handled properly, sitting on the floor, bottom side down. Today finally unwrapped it with a contractor to install it... and somehow it unrolled a couple of feet. And there is damage on that part. 😭 😭 😭 (It's still not connected to power, so haven't gotten it unrolled in its entirety.) No idea how it could have unrolled; that mechanism doesn't exactly move on its own, but yet it did.

I think I know the answer already, but there is no magic DYI method to smooth things out or whatever? It'll be fine in 2:35 movies, that'll be in the black bars, but anything less than that will be effed up. This screen is less than a year old. I'm sooooo :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

I'm having difficulty seeing exactly what happened. The dimple in photo one may stretch out when screen is open if you heat it with a hand dryer. Not sure what we're looking at in photo two. I had wrinkles in a screen that I moved but they came out with heat and stretching on the frame. I feel your pain.

DaveN, the second photo is very similar damage, these "dimples." It runs at intervals across the bottom of the screen where it somehow unrolled. I will try the hair dryer (gently.) Hopefully that does something! Thanks!

I´d contact Stewart. Sometimes heat helps, sometimes it damages.

I don't have a Stewart, so don't go completely on my advice, but i had wrinkles on my Screen Innovations motorized screen and they had me use a hair dryer, carefully and from about 18" away, slowly waving it around, never keeping it on one area without motion, doing it on both the front and the back of the screen and it totally worked... took about 20 minutes as i was scared to get to close with the heat, but being patient and waving it back and forth over both sides slowly cleared up the wrinkle (actually more like a set of pock-mark dimples which we think came from rolling up the screen with a bug/moth inside or something). but the heat did work 100% and the screen is back to essentially perfect.
Ask them if it could help in your case... probably can't make it worse for you if the screen is already likely to need replacing if it doesn't work.

I agree with contacting Stewart. They also can re-screen most units if you send it to them.

My 6 year old pristine 14 foot wide 2:40 AT Stewart ST100 was rolled (I did not put the rice paper which comes with the screen on it before rolling) and sat on the floor for 4 months in the cardboard stewart tube while I was doing a Subwoofer upgrade.
When I unrolled it, the screen was all mushy and smeared (like the vinyl had deteriorated - looked like a chemical defect) - I had bought it from @cinelife.
He reported it to Stewart and they sent me a replacement at cost (thanks @cinelife as he did not want to make any money off my misery).
The good thing I had changed my projector so the new material was ordered for my new projector.
Stewart is very good - if this happened due to a known issue they will do the right thing - you need to contact them and talk to them.
Many your screen and date your projector - one year old screen getting damaged is very unforfortunate as these are supposed to last forever.
