Sofabaton X2 Remote + R1 Repeater Hub

Adding to this, something that didn't make the video...

In addition to controlling Roku, Sonos and Hue directly via IP/API, and compatible with MQTT triggers in Home Assistant, this can also control capable devices over IP using webhooks.

This was excellent. Thank you so much for doing the video. I get mine on Thursday and will be doing set-up with the same activities. If I buy more for my other non-theater rooms I’ll be sure to click through your links (now that I know about your videos).

Great video, I just don't like that you have to swipe right now in order to start an activity. What are they thinking?

I don't know, I kinda appreciate it. Seemed weird at first, but I also know that there've been times I've picked up my Unfolded Circle remote and accidentally triggered an activity just grabbing it out of the cradle.

What happens with my Harmony Elite all the time is when I pick it up, it will switch from the "Activities" screen to the "Devices" screen. I can't tell if I'm pressing the "Devices" part of the screen or not.

Yeah, this happens to me all the time as well with the Elite. For the most part I love the Elite but this issue as well as horrible battery life are annoying. If I forget to put it back in the dock after a movie...I am screwed next time I go to watch something. It seems to constantly drain even when not "used".

Oh, that reminds me...another ?? about the X2. One other annoying thing about the Elite is how sensitive it is to being woke up...a good LFE scene from a movie wakes it up which ruins the bat cave ambiance :). How sensitive is the X2? can it be adjusted?

Gonna wait til after the holidays and let the dust settle abit but looks like X2 is only real choice for me even thou I do wish it had more IP control. Hopefully some more in depth reviews will be out soon.

The battery life is pretty good on both my Elites to where I only need to put them in the charging dock around 3 times a week. I usually only charge them on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

So, just a battery data point on the X2 for fun. Not gonna be a real-world use at all.

On January 11th, I dismantled my equipment racks to migrate to a different setup. At this time, the X2 was unplugged and placed on a shelf. It has not been used since then. I just took a look today, and having been unplugged for close to two months, the battery is still at about 50%. Again, it hasn't been used in that time, but still pretty solid.

For that reason alone, I switched our den TV to an X2 from an X1. Great battery life.

I've found the battery life to be very impressive. Typically weeks of use without needing a charge.

Undoubtedly one of the reasons this remote has such long battery life is that it isn't running a full web server on it like UCR3 does, nor does it do 2-way comms, nor is it a state-of-the art color display. (X2's is adequate but not super impressive... but that's probably helping with power drain).

Worth pointing out on this topic is that even when the time to charge does come... there's BOTH a well-designed dock for charging at night or when not in use AND a normal USB-C port on the remote itself, allowing easy charging while using the remote at your couch (where you likely have a USB-C cord nearby for your phones/tablets anyway, right?). Perfect setup for charging... why Unfolded Circle skipped the USB-C on the remote itself baffles me... it means that when it's low/out of charge, you MUST dock it which makes it near impossible to use it at the same time. And with that remote, you'll be doing that pretty much once a day given it's short battery life, exacerbating the problem.

Good to hear how good battery life is on the X2. Thou, to be perfectly honest...as long as whatever remote I use lasts ~3hours on a full charge I am usually gtg... I make it a point to put remote into dock after every session. I still claim that a modern remote like the X2...with IP control, HA integration, etc but with a few more hard buttons and without a screen would be my ideal remote.
