I’ve always wondered why the studios would offer lossy immersive/ atmos audio (along with the mezzanine file) to K. No short changes happening on the video side. 🧐

I might be wrong but I think they offer same assets across the board and it’s only the streaming platform which needs to compress media to make it more efficient/ accessible to everyone, in a highly constrained environment.

Or maybe it just wasn’t offered to K, like Mike was alluding to earlier. Hopefully they are able to secure that asset down the road.

Ditto... There have been all sorts of conflicting details on how/what the studios provide to the everyone. It could be there is a a separate (lossy) package provided to streamers...of which I imagine the studios incorrectly consider Kaleidescape a part of...and then the lossless to disc. In that case..its probably Kaleidescape that chooses to not use the lossy(far as I know there has never been a lossy atmos track on K?). But who knows...the whole who gets what and when is confusing and does not really show any consistancy.

Correct. When assets differ it's because one set is prepared for digital (all sources) and one for physical. In these cases, the target for the digital assets are streamers and digital stores (including K). All digital sales/rentals are roughly 6% of the home video market and K is a tiny fraction inside of that.

K has previously stated that when they're only presented with lossy Atmos they choose 5.1. So, that's no speculation. On this specific title, Mike is saying they weren't offered it. There may be some oversight at play and perhaps a bit of hope lingering.
