for those of us with Strato V/E/M... When we see updates for movies getting the C-DV/HDR10 treatment, does that also mean the normal 4k DV/HDR10 will also get an update? i have read elsewhere that the authoring process has continued to evolve for all titles. will the movies on our machines automatically get updated if there was an update?

While I'm sure it depends on the age of the current non-cinematic encode (I.E. recent titles that won't benefit from a re-encode probably won't get one), yes, the intention is to take this opportunity to re-encode non-cinematic versions of these titles at this time too, per- @MikeKobb 's post here: US Digital Releases for July & August 2026

Movies already download to a system don't get automatically updated, but they will show up in the updates queue in the app/website for you to kick off the update if desired.

Thanks for the link... does not answer if the title is already on our machine, will it update automatically?

One thing I have noticed is getting Update notices for several of my movies....that when I click on them in the store for "Updates Available" they show "Added Video Format 4k Dolby Vision".. But these titles already had DV version, so I assume its a reencode due to new process? Have yet to see one where the update was for HDR10. :( Have not bothered to update any of them since I prefer HDR10 versions and these are permanent titles on the V i use for demo purposes...or when I have the theater/house to myself :)

I was asking cus I have 'Baby Driver' loaded on my E and saw somewhere that this got the Cinema 4k treatment. but i dont see any update available for me. i dont expect this to be an issue very often since i can only store 5 movies. i usually just have 2 or 3 loaded up for my next watch and maybe add another 1 or 2 depending on if the wife wants to watch something.

My assumption is that those of us with standalone M/E/V's will not see any Update notices unless one of the non-cinematic 4k versions also got updated. A movie getting a 4k Cinematic 4k update does not guarantee it also got updates to the other versions. Just kinda a "maybe" thing. So far I have only seen 4 cases and they were all updates to the regular 4k DV versions which means nothing to me.

Many of the movies that get 4K Cinematic updates are also getting updates to the regular 4K versions, because it's an opportunity to revisit those movies with our latest encode recipes and tools while we have the mezzanine assets unarchived. However, if the movie is a relatively recent release, it may already have been processed with the latest tools, in which case there would be no benefit to doing it again.

Regarding how updates work: you'll get a notice for updates to the version of the movie that is on your system. For the standalone players, that means that in practice, you won't get very many such notices, since there aren't many movies on the system at any one time. The next time you download the movie, you'll get the newest version, of course.

Thanks for the clarification. Now I know where to look for the update.
