New K Lag/audio dropouts

I have just installed a Strato k in a terra compact 8TB/strato e system. The Strato e was replaced with the k so all the same devices are in the same spot and the e was moved to another room. All settings on the k are default except hdmi metadata and cec being enabled. Audio is output via arc. All included cables were used.

The new Strato k experiences a much more choppy covers view. I can reproduce on demand a laggy interface while the Strato e is perfect. What can I do about this? I’m on the latest kOS as of October.

Additionally, some movies will have audio mute for a few seconds and then auto resume sporadically throughout the film, consistent with some titles but not others. Seems to drop out more in non 4k movies. Rewinding and playing does successfully play the lost audio. Should I keep waiting for bug fixes or could this be faulty hardware?

I think I've experienced something similar with my V with audio issues. Not laggy interface, though. K-Scape is going to recommend you drop your HDMI to a lower speed. I only experience audio drops from a long pause or resume. I think I've had one audio drop while playing. I don't think I give it enough time to come back. If I rewind a few seconds, the audio comes right back and that may be the 2 to 3 seconds is all that is needed to get it to come back as you have experienced. I've reached out to tech support on my issue and they recommend dropping the HDMI speed.

Its not enough of a bother of me to mess with setting for an issue like this.

Seems strange to suggest a lower speed. My k is hooked directly to a Samsung 8k tv with no avr using their included cable with the correct direction even. The Strato e has no issues displaying at the levels it advertises. I suppose I can only wait for updates but the more posts about k issues they see the higher the chance that happens.

You can change the OSD refresh rate under the player’s advanced video settings via your server’s web interface. I believe it defaults to auto, setting 60Hz should smooth it out.

The reduced throughput speed can be helpful if you’re running into bandwidth ceiling issues with one of the components in your chain, which doesn’t seem likely in your case.

It was set to auto and I just changed it to 60fps preferred. Then I went to covers and hovered a movie and it still stuttered/fps dropped significantly while the covers moved.

You may also have to change the video output behavior to minimize display mode changes. I just added a K today as well and those were the two changes I had to make.

Not saying you didn’t, but you have to additionally scroll down and click apply after acknowledging the pop-up dialog warning of a player restart. It’s easy to miss (I did at first), especially if configuring on a phone.

My phone did not get a pop up about a restart but after reconnecting to the website the changes did take effect. I do have display mode changes with external scalar so the tv changes to filmmaker mode while in content and exits when going to the menu. The strato e has the same settings and doesn’t lag at all.

That’s strange, and sorry to hear that didn’t resolve it. I clearly had the same issue on startup (24fps OSD) and changing that setting worked. I would maybe try restarting the player from the web interface? I’m afraid I’m out of ideas other than that.

If you really want them to know about your issues, e-mail support. This site, though occassionally monitored by Kscape staff is not an official forum. K support staff are very responsive to issues reported.

What other devices do you have plugged into the overall HDMI chain? I’ve had it before where my Zidoo Z9S caused my Firestick 4K to stop working properly because of HDMI CEC signals getting pushed out by it.

If you contact support though they can do diagnostics. I’ve literally contacted them over the last week because I’ve been having media read errors and they checked the drives on my Terra weren’t an issue.
