Movie Updates

A Star Is Born (2018) from Warner Bros updated to include C?DV/C_HDR/C_SDR with Dolby TrueHD Atmos
I'll be keeping an eye on this one as there's an alternate cut ("Encore Edition") that has been available in 4K HDR. It hasn't made the jump to any of the 4K Cinematic formats so it'll be interesting to see what K does here. Obviously, I think it should be included in all applicable formats, but the fact that it was never in 4K SDR and didn't make the jump to 4K DV might signal K's intentions.

Also, as I pointed out in a dedicated thread elsewhere on the forum, the downloads for this title are a disaster. There are "Extras" embedded inside the HD and SD "movie" downloads in addition to the separate Extras downloads. To get a complete package for this title you have to download nearly everything, which is just ridiculous.

Posting a potential data loss warning on the updates for Iron Man and Iron Man 3. When the 4K Audio/Video updates appeared in Movie Updates for me, the update/download defaulted to including the HD versions. I have the full HD versions of these two movies on my Terra because the Extras were previously bound to the full movie HD download. These Extras were removed for HD compatibility and have not yet returned.

Further, Atmos tracks have been added to the HD versions of these movies. When this has happened in the recent past it is done so at the expense of commentary tracks. I do not have immediate access to my K at the moment and cannot verify if these two titles had commentaries but am putting out the warning as I recently lost these on LOTR: Fellowship Extended and won't update Edward Scissorhands for the same reason. I'll follow up when I can confirm.

I can confirm that there are no commentaries on either Iron Man or Iron Man 3. Therefore, if you have pre-HD Compatibility versions on your system you WILL lose Extras but there's no impact to audio.

The Running Man (2025) is now available on cinematic along with the Hitman’s wife’s bodyguard 🧐…and The Lego movie.

The 3 Bourne titles (ultimatum, identity and supremacy) are available in cinematic but doesn’t include the dts:X track found on the discs.

However the transfers on the discs are so pedestrian that I might have to abandon immersive audio, in favor of a potentially enhanced visual experience.

Watching Bourne identity. The transfer looks a bit better and smoother in some scenes when compared to the disc. I preferred the HDR10 version as it is a bit brighter.

It would be great to revisit those movies! I wonder why we have so many problems getting DTS:X? I think Hulk 2008 is another example of not getting it.

Because K is a digital video store like iTunes, Prime, Vudu, etc. The target audience of the assets is streamer boxes and mobile devices.

Disney never do DTS-X on K and only recently added it to Disney plus with the IMAX enhanced stuff (I’m guessing a mutually beneficial arrangement, free usage for Disney and free marketing for DTS in a space they have zero penetration, would not be surprised if Disney want to drop Dolby to save money).

Universal do have some DTS-X titles but they have a lot of films pre-2021/22 which have object formats on disc or the HD version but not in 4K on K because their digital department only got lossy mixes and for whatever reason they won’t give up the disc assets so the only time they are getting updated with Atmos is if they do a new release with it. Nearly all my discs with missing object audio tracks on K are Universal with and a few from Paramount.
