Movie Updates

Okay, great info! Thank you!
You can also look at the various physical media reviews, if they're out when the upgrades hit Kaleidescape, as this is essentially a situation where the studio is doing a remaster, sometimes they take great care, sometimes they don't, sometimes they use questionable techniques. But it's the same remaster going to all delivery platforms, who then prep it for their use case.

Dirty Harry seems to be a good one.

www.blu-ray.com is also a great source of info.

Ocean Waves has received a Strato V HD Compatibility update. I believe this is the first Studio Ghibli title to do so.

My apologies for not conducting an in-depth search for this answer. Please feel free to send me the link on from this forum on this topic if you feel so inclined.

Does K have this doc included in newest 4k Aliens?

Labyrinth (1986) SDR Version updated.
That is SO weird. The 4K SDR version of Labyrinth on the K Store was released by Sony before it was removed when Shout bought the rights.

Sony first released a 4K HDR Blu-ray for the 30th Anniversary that received a lot of criticism for its heavy grain (similar to initial Ghostbusters release). Upon the 35th Anniversary they released another version with updated visuals with Dolby Vision color grading which helped smooth things out a bit. This version of the disc sold for hundreds of dollars as it was the best release before Shout finally released new 4K DV discs late last year. During all this time, K only had a 4K SDR version, never even including the original HDR color grading.

K has not returned Labyrinth (or The Dark Crystal) to the K Store since the Sony removal (the removal only lasted about 6 weeks on other digital stores). So, is this somehow an update of Sony assets? That seems weird as Sony almost certainly wouldn't be providing them at this point. But if it was a preparation for a new release, it would certainly be a new listing/purchase and be from Shout's 4K DV masters. Maybe K was doing a re-encode of in-hand mezzanine files for Strato V HD compatibility and realized they could produce a superior SDR version???

I'm confused. All this does is remind me that all of the Henson movies/series are still missing from the K Store.

So excited to see the remaining rocky movies get released in 4k. Thank you Kscape!
