Movie Updates

Shaun of the Dead is getting a new release on UHD with DV and Atmos. Wondering if those enhancements will make it over to K's version
Such a great movie! Double-feature with the same team's "Hot Fuzz" would be awesome, already out in 4K HDR10 in the store.
And if you like Simon Pegg movies, but have a partner that doesn't like zombie or cop movies, definitely give his "Man Up" a try... hysterical and a RomCom even non-rom-com people may really enjoy.

Thor (2011) in HDR from Marvel Studios
Audio & Video Improvements

Will have to check out Man Up. A big fan of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. The World’s End was a bit of a letdown for me, but still enjoyed it to finish out the Cornetto Trilogy.

Will be interesting to check out the new atmos track on the upcoming Shaun of the Dead. The current version on uhd discs (for the entire trilogy) includes Dts:X.

Demolition Man 4K coming from Arrow in December. Any chance that makes it to K?
Unfortunately, no. K doesn’t have a contract with Arrow, but more importantly Arrow doesn’t distribute (most of) their movies in 4K digitally.

The Aviator (2004) in HD from Warner Bros. updated to DTS-HD Master 5.1 (Strato V update from old VC-1 encode)

Dolby Vision added for the following
Tenet (2020) from Warner Bros.

Moana (2016) from Disney

Once again, many thanks for the continual Disney DV update adds from my kids K-Scape team!

I honestly believe the DV versions of these films make a big impact and noticeable difference, and I’ve seen Moana probably over 500 times over 8 years with 2 kiddos who agree……from the mouths of babes as they say….

Think it will be even more noticeable in Coco and Encanto, like it was in Inside Out Part 1 and the ice cave scene in Frozen 2 Chapter 18.

Keep em’ coming! 🙌🏻

Whoa...disc version is ancient w/ 14.9 Mbps video + Dolby Digital 5.1.

49.9 GB on KScape over 170 minutes w/DTSHD 5.1 & LPCM 2.0 = 32+ Mbps video. Potentially quite the upgrade! 🤩

Another banger! I didn't own this one on disc but I'll be buying it on KScape now. Old discs were 14.8 Mbps video and only the 2014 10th Ann release had lossless audio. This looks like another unique high bitrate HD encode for KScape!

Side note, I sampled The Aviator yesterday and it looked and sounded great. Didn't do a back-to-back with the disc but I was impressed!

Body of Lies (2008) in HD from Warner Bros. updated to DTS-HD Master 5.1 from Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (Strato V update from old VC-1 encode)

Fool's Gold (2008) in HD from Warner Bros. updated to DTS-HD Master 5.1 from Dolby Digital 5.1 (Strato V update from old VC-1 encode)

Fracture (2007) in HD from Warner Bros. updated to DTS-HD Master 5.1 from Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (Strato V update from old VC-1 encode)

I'm still waiting on Insidious Chapter 2 to get fixed for HD on the Strato V. I purchased the content set not knowing that the second one didn't work on the Strato V. I watched the first one, then when I wanted to watch the second one, I could only download the SD version.

Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies of all time, any genre. Definitely agree that it is the best Zombie movie, ever
Funny story. One of my first projects as a software engineer at Kaleidescape was implementing the UI on our players for disc-in-tray playback. (Previously, you had to import a disc before you could play it, but people wanted to play rental discs and so we added this ability.)

My test disc for that feature was Shaun of the Dead. I've seen it probably 30 times at a minimum. It's a movie that doesn't just hold up well on repeat viewing, it gets better and better as you recognize all of the foreshadowing and callbacks that occur throughout. Truly brilliant.
The movie also has two spectacular, long, uninterrupted Steadicam shots of Shaun's two walks down to Nelson's market. I love everything about Steadicam, so those two shots are like candy for me.

Tangled (2010) in Dolby Vision with Dolby TrueHD Atmos from Disney added
Also Video & Audio Improvements to HDR version

Of course, you all influenced me to want to get Shaun of the Dead now that it's off sale....
