Movie Updates

I'm only about a week since getting my Kaleidescape player and have a movie price question. There are a few titles I'm interested in purchasing because they are at the $9.99 price point. Is this typically the lowest price they will be without being on your D2D list?
I've seen maybe a dozen tops at $7.99 in the last 2 1/2 years.

There used to be "build your own bundle" deals where you could get as low as $6.99, but those have since been seemingly replaced by the Content Sets.

$9.99 is the lowest the vast majority will get, outside of Content Sets and D2D discounts. I'd grab 'em.

Lisa Frankenstein now in DV (no audio changes):

This morning, I watched "Tarot" on Netflix where I was really impressed with the Atmos audio. Of course, I then did a search on Kaleidescape for this movie and found that only contained the DTS HD Master 5.1 audio track. I then checked Vudu, and it was DD+ 5.1 and only 4K SDR. I then checked Sony's own Pictures Core app and found it didn't contain the Atmos track either. This is frustrating because it seems the studios are only concerned with how much they can make off of the title, rather than with the customer. Why are some titles so very different on video/audio on the various streaming platforms and on Kaleidescape? You would hope that Kaleidescape would get the title with the best track, but Netflix probably paid Sony more $$$ to where they're the only ones to get the Atmos track? Very frustrating for us consumers!

Studios pull this kinda stuff all the time. Bad Boys 2 was not available in Atmos on iTunes...but was on Sony Bravia or whatever their service is called. Luckily it was Atmos on Kaleidescape. I am a little concerned about upcoming Twisters since the pre-order on Kaleidescape does not indicate Atmos. Hopefully its just not known yet.

Yes, very frustrating.

pre-orders don't often display audio information until release.

Bad boys 2 is only 5.1 dts-hd on kscape. Disc supports atmos.

I bet Atmos will be out in a few says. I've seen a few releases lately that the Atmos track is added soon after the title is available.
I thought bad boys 2 was an older release. Or was it added recently on kscape?

The new bad boys: ride or die does indeed have atmos.

Baby Driver & Passengers (2016) now in DV (no audio changes):

Atmos is now indicated on the store for Twisters. I have already pre-ordered. Can’t wait.

@MikeKobb and @J.Green , it would be nice if the support team could add DV for Alien as part of Alien week (and/or prometheus, covenenant as ridley scott prequels)......but definitely Alien since Aliens already has DV, with Romulus releasing this week.

Do you know if that is in queue to be added shortly by chance (at least Alien)? Thanks again!

Can't wait for Alien Romulus DV pre-order......

My understanding is that Alien will probably come in DV in the future, but it's not coming imminently. From what I've been able to tell looking around at some streaming services, it seems like this is just not really available yet for electronic delivery. It does seem like an excellent candidate for a Dolby Vision release, though, and I personally would be very excited to see it.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is on sale for $14.99. Is this a good deal or will it come down further once the disc is released? Just wondering about newer titles on average.

The rest of the titles in that series are also on sale for $14.99 if that’s an indicator for you.

There’s also the Content Set option, don’t know it Kingdom has been looped into it yet tho.

No, it seems only the previous 3 are on a content sale as a trilogy.

I pulled the trigger on Rise & War (Dawn has 7.1 sound on disc and I'll hold off Kingdom until I see the disc's technical specs). Being Twentieth Century (Disney) I doubt they would get much cheaper. Surprising that Kingdom is already at what's likely the sweet spot.

A quick update for you Strato V owners:

The next tranche of the HD conversions to make older content compatible with Strato V is entering the final qualification and rollout phase starting today. The full rollout is expected to take 4 to 5 weeks to complete (approximately 35 titles per day).
