@Edgar I see you're planning to watch the new format Speed Racer.

I rewatched in recently in K's original format (SDR?) and then again in the new 4K/HDR format. While the color palette and contrast were improved, I didn't think the color saturation was as overwhelming as it was in the SDR format.

I'm curious as to what you'll find when you watch it in 4K Cinematic.

I realize this may not be an easy question to answer, but do we know what went into all the recent titles as par of the "4k Cinematic" upgrade? I was considering replacing Fantastic Four First Steps on K even though I have it on 4K disc already. Back in Sept, the quality thread mentioned the movie had some issues and was worse than streaming in a lot of regards. Is there any reason to think that the 4K cinematic enhancement fixed those issues? (I really gotta stop looking at that quality comparison thread!)

I only have a Strato E so I'm only getting the regular DV version of the movie.

I watched the standard hdr version a couple weeks ago and it looked great. I didn’t notice any issues with it.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) from Warner Bros updated to include C_DV/C_SDR with DTS:X

Turtle Odyssey (2018) from K2 Communications updated to include C_HDR/C_SDR with DTS-HD Master 5.1

I noticed the update prompt again, clicked it, and got the Theatrical 4K HDR10 version to update as well. Must have been a glitch.

Maybe a protective measure in case a metatag doesn't match the file, and the metatag wasn't updated. When they didn't square, it just paused, for both updates and new downloads. That's my theory.

Currently, all three 4K HDR10 versions (theatrical version, director’s cut, and special edition) are downloaded together on the Kaleidescape app. There is no way to separate them per an email that I received from Kaleidescape technical support. The individual versions also cannot be deleted separately once downloaded. The total download size is 215GB. I have not tried separately downloading/deleting through the web store.

“For technical reasons, the three editions of the film were not able to be split into separate downloads. The 4k version of the film does include all three editions, however they are all now included in a single download.”

I'm sorry that it seems you've gotten not-quite-correct information here.

Each of the three edits of Close Encounters of the Third Kind is downloaded as a separate file. When you select the 4K HDR10 version to download, if you switch over to the Downloads view (web: Manage -> Downloads; app: More -> Downloads), you'll see that there are three items queued. You can cancel the download for any version you don't want.

It's true that once they're downloaded, you can't delete individual edits of the movie, but you do have the opportunity to prevent them from downloading.

Hope this helps!

No kidding! Amazing timing for me, just 23 hours to spare before I’m screening the film in my “Dad’s Summer Film Festival.”

I feel a bit like @4:4:4 with the flag planted before the announcement!

Yep, I reported this one after Memorial Day weekend. I watched it with my son and I noticed the forced subtitles were missing.

I wondered why it was taking the KS team so long to fix it. They were also giving the title 4K Cinematic treatment, so I’m not complaining lol.
