Movie Updates

Do the movie updates come in waves? I haven't gotten the Batman updates yet. I also checked my download history to double-check and nada.

You'll only get the updates if you have downloaded the updated version. If you have downloaded the DV or SDR versions, you won't be notified, since the updates were only to the HDR10 versions.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse HDR (2023) updated with video quality improvements and additional subtitle tracks (French/Spanish):

Inception (2010) HDR version updated

Damn, they were fast to fix these movies...
Thank you KS, and hopefully the new firmware will be available soon.
So K can perform on occasion. Whilst I applaud their efforts on this occasion two questions do immediately come to mind.

1. Have they fixed the problems moving forward so new encodes shouldn't have these problems and the backlog isn't getting worse?
2. What are they doing about the backlog of existing poor encodes, are they working backwards to fix them or waiting for someone like you to point out the issues before they act? A third but related question would be if they are proactively revisiting the existing library of encodes then what is the timescale they are working to or can we be expected to brace ourselves for a delay akin to the Srrato V HD encoding event.

Thanks for all your hard work by the way. Whether you see it as work and how much effort you put into this is another thing the fact is you have done for nothing what we all have been paying K to have done in the fist place. So many thanks from me.

1- I think so, I rarely find something wrong with the newer releases.
2- It does look like they’re just waiting for me to point out which titles are wrong… I think it’s pretty obvious that many of their old encodes are incorrect, and I only checked about 150 titles (which is nothing). They should just assign someone to verify all the old encodes against their sources.

Anyway, I have a lot more movies in my library that I haven’t checked yet, and once the firmware is released, I’ll be very active.

I appreciate what you're doing for the community.

@Rmarci Thanks for all your work - this community and Kaleidescape are gaining a lot from your work.
What do you think of the state of AMB6+ running avdvplus to pay MKV HDR/DV now that multiple updates are out and for example R8 is close to perfection (I am running the R8 version with Lumagen Radiance Pro) as compared to playing on K Escape when it comes to (a) Bad encodes such as Interstellar and (b) Good encodes where K has fixed the encode?
Off course another feedback would be useful is that when you play a HDR/DV MKV with FEL on a AMB 6 and play the same movie on K with good encoding - this comparison would be FEL versus no FEL.
Thanks.

It sucks that KS doesn’t have IMAX, but I still expect great quality from these new updates because KS’s bitrate is much higher than the disc.

The ugoos with CE avdvplus builds are amazing and keep getting better. By far the best and the only player who does DV correctly.

As long as KS is properly encoded, there shouldn’t be any difference with FEL.
FEL is useful when the HDR10 base layer is improperly encoded.

FEL can also restore a brighter master because the Dolby tools allow mapping a trim pass for the HDR10 base layer in order to help low-nits HDR10 displays. For titles authored like this on Blu-ray, KS does not deliver a trim pass when they have the 4000+ nits mezzanine, so the FEL brightness will match the KS HDR10 brightness. DV Profile 5 will also match because you cannot deliver a trim pass in DV5 without recalculating the brightness and trim metadata.

John Wick 1, 2, and 3 are good examples of this workflow. The Blu-ray discs are all 1000 nits in HDR10, and the FEL Dolby Vision restores the 4000-nit master. I haven’t checked them yet, but I expect the KS HDR10 encodes to be 4000 nits as well since they also offer DV. I made a video comparison about the italian FEL BD recently here.

Curious - Is there a good list of all titles in the store that have IMAX or VAR aspect ratios? I couldn't find such a list.

I need to double check Ford V Ferrari on Kscape vs my disc. I could have sworn the HDR on the disc was a tad brighter in the highlights. Could be an issue with that one.

Casino Royale (2006) HDR updated with audio and video improvements !

Can someone here confirm if the Jurassic Park & World films on Kscape are the new re-masters from last year?
Not remastered, simply re-released with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (where previously missing). Yes, K has the new DV/DA versions. :)

So I own the 4K steelbook sets that came out in June of 2025. I can confirm that even the HDR was re-mastered for all 3 original Park films. The world films got ATMOS and DV. They basically removed a lot of the DNR processing on the HDR older versions and now you can see more film grain. Just wondering if the same was true for the Kscape versions as the disc to digital price they offering is very good.

Thanks for the clarification. At the time, I only recall the addition of the DV versions as well as audio updates to the HDR versions. I checked prior posts and can't find reference to video updates to the HDR versions, but that doesn't mean they didn't occur. Honestly, in this case, I'd fire off a question to K directly at: movies@kaleidescape.com
