Last movie watched

Not available on disc or K, but for anyone who has AppleTV - "Tenzing" is well worth a watch. Some excellent audio (just up the dB a few levels), pic quality is excellent too.

Watched The Invite last night. Went in basically blind and came out of it really enjoying it. Great cast and some really funny moments balanced with some solid drama. I wouldn't put this in the date night category due to the subject matter, but a great watch if you need something with no explosions. Highly recommend going in with as little knowledge as possible about the film.
The wife left the room and asked if I was trying to tell her something with this one o_O It was good otherwise lol

Watched Black Bag last night. A nice entertaining whodunnit, spy/ espionage thriller. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Looked and sounded glorious in cinematic. Would definitely recommend a watch.

Saw this a few months back. Didn’t think I knew it was a Soderberg. Interesting movie.

My wife and I watched Runner the other night.

“And.. well… that’s all I have to say about that.”

We watched Nightmare Alley again, this time on K in 4k HDR. I have a new screen since last time I watched it on disc (ARLed Sirius) vs Oled then, but I don’t think I have seen such eye candy before. I would totally failed a blind test and claimed it would be a new cinematic encode we are waiting for. I remembered it was a cinematic master piece with awesome lighting and filmed with an Arri 65, but it looked sooo good! No need to wait for cinematic upgrade for this one, but would be interesting to compare. I do hope the black and white will make it to K. I think I will get the criterion disc with the extended cut from last year as well since it is such a good movie overall. And I love art deco. So many reasons to watch this gem. Highly recommended!

Someone on here is directly responsible for me buying Nightmare Alley on Kscape! lol. I’ve always been meaning to get around to watch it when it was on streaming but glad I waited! Currently in the Kscape Queue for possible next movie to watch tho.

I hope you have a good display/screen as well, this encode deserves it. Nevertheless pretty sure you will enjoy it. It is a little predictable but everything else will make up for it. Enjoy!

It’s a Panasonic OLED 77” so it’s pretty good. But it definitely does better in DV mainly because HDR just isn’t very bright.. but I can eliminate all light in the room if I have to. Also hoping the audio is good as well. Looks like it mostly uses the middle height channels for atmos.

I picked up Army of Darkness earlier this week on sale. I haven't seen the movie in ages. I'm not a fan of that genre but I know its a cult classic so I picked it up in case anyone decides to spend time at my house. So I think that is my goal for tonight, followed by maybe MI:3. If a friend comes over, we'll queue up Dune or Dune 2.

Anything else anyone has queued up?

Any recommendations? I'm starting to venture out of my comfort zone of modern sci-fi, drama and what not. I'm going to start doing some classic US cinema before long.
Forgot to throw this out there back when you posted:
North By Northwest was the first “Classic” movie we watched on our Strato V. The 4K restoration was released about a month after we got it a few years ago. 🤯🤯🤯

Wow!! You weren’t kidding!! It really does look good!! I can’t explain it but Nightmare Alley has a unique “look” to it. Also, I realized I’ve never actually watched that movie so it’s all new to me, thanks!

Since BSD (acronym for the Pinball Machine) went on sale, I snagged it and played it last night. I really enjoyed it after it got going. The casting was REALLY bad for Keanu and Wynona. Everyone else was fantastic. The audio and mix was great. HDR was great. I'm starting to question my sanity on these transfers from film with the grain. My only gripe over all about this movie was the use of sets rather than on location. It had a weird feel to it and it was distracting to me. Even for a 1992 release, they could have done better for on location shoots. I felt the use of SFX or lack there of was refreshing and well done. Makeup was stellar. Obviously the script and story need no introduction. What really sparked my interest was that I watched the Last Voyage of the Demeter which is excellent btw.

Also, Keep in mind, I probably haven't seen this movie since 1992 or 1993.

Glad you liked it, yes Del Toro wanted of course to keep that Neo Noir look of the original, and even went so far to come out with a black and white version of his cut. Other good examples are of course are Blade Runner and Drive, high contrast and deep shadows.

There was something else.. special with the visuals.. I can’t explain it, it just looked amazingly “smooth but detailed”. Some of the bright highlights vs the darker shades really popped also.

I have both on Kscape but have seen them before so just waiting to get thru some more immediate movies first. Plus, my current living situation doesn’t allow me to play at volume levels my system is capable of after 10pm so that limits my playing time. I previewed blade runner for the sound already tho.

I recently purchased the latest 4K UHD disc from Amazon. I have a collectors edition DVD from years ago. I like Anime, but not a huge fan. I can tell you the transfer is very clean. Grain is wiped, its a very very good transfer. The sound is killer. Its in Dolby TrueHD and the mix is good and the dynamics are pretty solid. If you are a fan of OG anime or never seen this, give this a watch on the new 4K. I wish we could get this on K-Scape but I paid about $25 for this so I doubt I'd get the latest version on K-Scape.

watched Gods of Egypt 2 nights ago. I wanted to see how a decent movie with DTSX was. Imo, the sound was incredible!! Heights with DTSX was seriously good and the bass and infra bass was awesome!! Also, it’s not in DV so I had to mess with the hdr settings but most scenes looked great! Aside from the bad “green screen” scenes, there were a few standouts.. like the bridge scene around 25-35 mins and especially the Ra Scene in space! Wow!
Why aren’t more movies on Kscape in DTSX ?? For example; Dracula Untold?

Was this physical or on a service?

I'm a big DTS fan. Definitely +1 on DTS:X on K-Scape. Such a disappointment that it isn't available.

I watched it on Kscape. It was in hdr and had DTSX
I purchased all the dts:X titles (4k + HD) on K. I love the format and own every title available on physical media (UHD and Blu-ray). There is a complete list of titles supporting DTS:X and atmos on Blu-ray.com.

You should check out Apollo 13 and Van Helsing. They are some of the standout examples of this format.
