I have a music server that's out of warranty and it needs a new disc drive. Can you purchase replacement parts from Kaleidescape for out of warranty units. I can install the disc drive myself if parts are available.

I may be mistaken, but I thought the KMUSIC-4000 was a player only... no storage on board. So if I'm right, you have a bad disc in one of your servers? Do you know which server it is so people here can help you determine what disc you'd need?

There are likely replacement discs you can purchase here on the forum from other owners who have upgraded to larger discs. But you need to let us know which server you have and what capacity disk is it that failed. The discs usually have the size printed on the plastic in very faint letters.

I think he means bad Cd/DVD drive, not bad hard disc.

If that is the case, people have replaced those drives themselves in the past.

Sorry, saw this post last week, got sidetracked and forgot to respond.

There is no CD/DVD replacement drive available from K. The only replacement part they sell is the power supply. They will sell you a refurbed 4000, based on availability, for $1K. You could also check the used market for a replacement.

Other than those options, you are on your own, but as Mike mentioned, some folks have claimed to have sourced their own drive and replaced it themselves. I have not personally done it, so cannot guide you in the process. Perhaps someone that has will see this and respond.

I have replaced a DVD rom in a k-5000 movie player and I believe the same drive was used in the k-4000. K used a few different drives over the years, so I would suggest just removing the top cover of the unit and see which make and model number drive is in yours. It is a very common drive that can easily be sourced on ebay for $25. If you have ever swapped or installed a cd-rom drive in a desktop pc, then you have all the know-how you'll need to accomplish this.
