K stretching the movie to fill the 16by9 space automatically

Does K do this? If not, could htis be a per-movie option so that users of panamorph lenses could have it automatically stretched by K when it displays?

Ian,
I am confused on your request. Do you mean make the outputted image panamorph compatible? If that is your request, most projectors that come with a panamorph lens also have a video processor which can do this mode. Currently, I believe processors from Lumagen, Pixel Magic, and DVDO can do this.

K does this. It is a little complicated to explain in an email , but K support can help you out.

In the player settings you simple tell the player that you are connected to a 16 x 9 or 4 x 3 display. so even if you are connecting to a 4 x 3 display, you set for 16 x 9 and then kick on the anamorphic lens.

But will it move subtitles in to the picture area so they will nto be cut off with an CIH setup? I posted the same question over at AVS, and apparently K will not do it. Isn't this an easy feature to add? It seems like if some very cheap dvd players can do it, why couldn't K?

Just out of curiosity, which dvd players do the CH stretch and move subtitles?

Jim

Yes- this would be a nice feature to have- and so long as the subtitles are generated by the dvd player itself I see no reason why it could not be an option that would be user enabled.

We had this request many times in the past. and from others besides poindexter. :)

It was something that was on the list, but i have no idea where on the list it is these days.

how about a new forum area where moderators list and describe specific requested features so K staff can see what users are lookign for?

that's what this forum area is for... and I do know that Kaleidescape employees and execs do look here.

Sometimes new ideas do tend to crop up in the middle of other threads which makes navigating this a little tougher... is that what you're saying? I'm happy to try to break threads when new ideas crop up but I'm reluctant sometimes to do that as I don't want to interrupt the flow of the discussion that is taking place.

Josh,
Perhaps you could create an "official suggestions" sticky in this forum. Only the moderators could post in the sticky. They would copy the ideas from the threads here where an idea has been seconded by more than one other forum members- so youd need at least 3 people agreeing to the idea (originator+2 seconders). This would make it easy for the Kaleidescape people to read and also it would weed out the more wild and zany ideas like "how come my Kplayer doesnt wake me up and make my coffee" :).

"how come my Kplayer doesnt wake me up and make my coffee" :).

Actually, this should be the FIRST thing on the list.:D

As to a separate "suggestions thread," not a bad idea, it could help K spot comments faster. The only downside I see is the same problem that occurs on other forums. The suggestion quickly turns into 5 pages of back and forth comments that are often (not always) off topic and lengthen the thread unnecessarily. I realize Jerry's "control" comment covers that issue, but I also would not want to become a "gatekeeper" for other owners ideas.

Perhaps, if such a thread is created (similar to the "future wishes" thread at Crystalio), rules could be posted that indicate appropriate restrictions. (Ridiculous?)

Jim and Jerry-

That is exactly what I am talking about- the initial post as a sticky at the top is the main suggestion, then the comments after wards are read by moderators to update the sticky suggestion and then deleted, or just plain deleted if they are irrevelant to furthering the feature suggestion itself. Feature suggestions could be pulled from existing threads as suggested by posters, and then the moderator could post in those threads saying that the suggestion has been posted as a sticky, making any further discussion on the topic directly relevant to the topic itself.

As for an example of being relevant- check out the postings over in avsforum- I post this question, and people start talking about downloadable content. I think this forum is much better at keeping things relevant to the original post.

Right. My suggestion is the sticky can only be modified by the mods/ admins so you wont have pages of comments. And you could have a rule like my 2 seconds so you dont have just a wish list of crazy ideas. Plus you have mod/ admin discretion.

You (mods/ admins) could even link to the originating thread so if Kaleidescape staff wanted to see the originating discussion they could but the sticky itself would not get jumbled up. I think this is a good idea.

It's a good idea... I agree. I'm a little concerned about it needing a lot more time and involvement by mods (me and Jim)... and there's always the risk that as we exercise a little editorial control, as is being suggested, that it results in people being offended that they're item wasn't "elevated" to the sticky thread, or was disregarded, or their post was deleted. I've tried to avoid being a "heavy-handed" admin that deletes posts.

But that said, it's a good idea and I'm OK to try to do it when I have some time... things are busy right now for me in my non-kscape world. but I'll try.

Perhaps you could make the sticky open to members of a minimal post count (so we keep spammers out). It would be honor system and if anyone violated it then the thread is shut down. The thread would not be for discussion, it would be just for the idea itself. If the idea can't get two seconds from other members then it doesnt get up there so it provides some cover for the mods.
