Incorrect Black Levels on Blade Runner: The Final Cut

I've always used Blade Runner: The Final Cut (4K HDR) as demo material. I just went to do so last night and saw that the black levels were lifted, and I could only get true blacks by reducing brightness to -3 on my JVC projector. You can see this immediately right from the opening credits sequence and then throughout the entire film. Blacks are grey.

I double checked all of my setup using test patterns, and also downloaded the 4K SDR version of the film, all of which looked correct and did not have this issue. I also do not recall ever seeing this issue before.

I checked and the movie had an update in October 2024, presumably to get it ready for the Strato V. I think something went wrong in that conversion process, similar to the reports of hue shifts on these boards. If anyone wants to check this out and verify I'd really appreciate it.

Could this be related to the Dolby Vision conversion process for the Strato V? Where should I report this?

UPDATE:

I checked the 4K Blu-ray Disc and it does not exhibit the elevated black levels. Black levels are perfect. I also found this discussion relating to Blade Runner DV version on iTunes which also seems to have this problem:

Blade Runner 4k got an update today

Looking forward to downloading it to see if the elevated black level was addressed

It appears that this update adds an audio track (PCM Stereo) and extras. So, I don't think it will improve the video. Since I don't care about PCM Stereo or extras, I have not bothered to download the update.

If you find there is a video improvement from the update, let us know. Thanks.

Yes, to my eye it looks fixed

Prior to the update, in the opening credits, my black bars were true black and the opening credits we’re noticeably more gray

After this update, the black bars are still black and they’re the same color black as the black opening credits

I’m not as much of an expert though, as the OP probably is.

But to me, it looks fixed!
