How does MadVR handle MI:8?

Specifically, the scene in the sub where when Cruise turns the valve, the aspect ratio ramps from widescreen to IMAX.

Is the MadVR smart/fast enough to be able to ramp a non-linear stretch through that scene to maintain a constant image projection aspect ratio?

Currently, it’s not designed to handle this the way you’re suggesting but Mathias from MadVR said he was planning to address this in a future firmware, but no guarantees.

Thanks.

So how does it handle this at the moment? My understanding is that the MadVR performs instantaneous processing when the aspect ratio of a title changes (this understanding comes from watching a YouTube video of how it handles the changing aspect ratios in Interstellar).

Yes, this works well for ar changes that jump directly from one ar to the other. But it doesn´t work well for slow ar transitions.

As @DieZwei indicates, abrupt changes are handled well, but in some movies, it basically 'zooms' from one aspect ratio to the other. I'm not using NLS to fill the screen all the time, so haven't tested this particular scenario. But I may take some time to do that, as I'm curious to see if it would work any differently.

But with 'regular' use, where NLS isn't filling the screen, what I have seen on my scope screen is that there is a quick 'stuttering' type of transition, where it goes in fast, short steps to get from on AR to the next, rather than providing a continuous change.

Also as posted above, the madVR developer is aware of this, and does plan on improving on the Envy's handling of these unusual situations. But there are more pressing priorities at the moment, which will have more benefit to more people.
