Fridges!

Yes, you read that right, fridges! Not sure if you'd class it as "AV Gear" but any one have any thoughts on the "best" fridge to go in a cinema room. Needs to be completely silent running and preferably with a glass door but where the light only comes on when you open the door. I think that would look better than the fully enclosed ones.

I suppose you could build it into a cupboard but I quite like the idea of seeing what is inside.

I have a "bar" and popcorn machine outside the "entrance" but the fridge would look out of place in the hallway, so am thinking behind my seating.

I use Marvel refrigerators (no relation to the movies :D) in my bar area, and a couple under counter in my kitchen area. It's silent 90% of the time, but like all refrigerators, it will cycle on the compressor from time to time to keep the cooling temp, but it isn't very loud. You set the temp, it's digital, and accurate to within a couple degrees. Light only comes on when I open the door. Not cheap, but well built and reliable (have 4, no issues in 5 years). I'm sure there are other possibilities, but I settled on these after much research.

Here's the website: https://www.marvelrefrigeration.com/

Cool - literally :) Nice one Jim. I shall check them out!

I'll chime in here with a request for experiences with undercounted drawer-style fridge/freezer units with ice makers. I have such a unit now in my kitchenette area off the theater. It's noisy and an energy hog, and the ice maker is on the fritz. Need something that accepts custom panels to match cabinetry as well. I may just get this one serviced (again) but if there's a better option...

I know that some brands offer models that have their compressor in a separate location, so you can't much more silent than that! However, I've only seen them in the full size variety. I'll do some digging. They're not cheap, but could be just the ticket. I always liked the idea of them from a serviceability aspect.

Howdy all. I finally remembered to have a look at these again when I had some free time. It seems, in order to get 0dB running, instead of compressors the fridges use absorption or "solid state" - I'm guessing that isn't flash drives - haha. Anyway's from what I can tell the choice comes down to the following 3 - I'm sure there are other brands but these seem to be the more popular ones:

https://www.summitappliance.com/minibars (might have been discontinued)
https://www.pamibar.com/minibars-2
https://www.pamibar.com/smeg-sm40l-en (just because...)
https://www.klarstein.co.uk/Home-ap...D-Plastic-Insert-Glass-Door-Black-32-Ltr.html
https://www.tefcold.com/coolers/coolers/minibars

I was personally looking to have one with a glass door but I'm now leaning to get one that has a solid door as it seems to give more storage options. The Tefcold range is probably the one I'll go for.

Well Trump did just spend $23M (yes, million) of taxpayer money replacing the frig’s on Air Force One.

Who knew.

True that the refrigeration costs on the new AF1 are in that range, but it wasn't for "refrigerators" alone. The refrigeration system on AF1 is extensive, several main coolers, including freezers, and support throughout the aircraft. It's all custom, nothing off-the-shelf. These systems are large enough to support the passengers for several weeks or longer without needing a resupply (one of many requirements for AF1). There are also a bunch of regulations they must comply with in constructing and installing these systems, all which add to the cost according to Boeing.

(Also, it wasn't Trump, it was the Air Force. Because of frequent failures of the older system, and need to update the technology, they have been requesting the change for many, many years. Trump has nothing to do with the approved budget or construction (but he'll tweet about it!)

I've been on AF1 several times in the past, it's not you average 747.......

Could be...if it isn't maybe K should reach out....:D

Can't speak for Trump but I went with this one in the end https://www.tefcold.com/coolers/coolers/minibars/tm52g

Arrives Tuesday. After weighing it all up, I thought without the glass door it just looked a bit meh. Glass door gives it a lot more appeal and storage wise, well I have the other fridges in the house for that purpose, I only need room for some beers, fizzy drinks and chocolate :)

And I can confirm, it is truly silent! Happy days! 😊
