The AMC theaters at the Grove in LA has a good Dolby Cinema. I think it's because a lot of directors will go to that theater to check in and then tell the projectionist how to tweak.

The two venues that will screen the 70mm Imax is at AMC Universal Citywalk, and Regal Irvine Spectrum. I just attended an afternoon screening at the latter, and it was brilliant. Fantastic showcase for both and and video. 70mm footage still is awe-inspiring.

Thanks for clarifying. That's helpful as we have family out there and they want to go see Interstellar on 70MM. We took family to see Wicked for daughter's birthday at Northpark 15 Dolby Cinema last night and sound was amazing. In lighter scenes, image was washed out, and audio sub range was exaggerated and balance was off with left side of theater getting more sound. Darker scenes were excellent and mid and treble and Atmos were great. Overall a great experience. IMAX seems a bit better in my recent comparisons between Dolby Cinema and IMAX.

The movie theater experience is significant and it's cool to see technologies like Dolby Cinema and IMAX. I remember seeing Star Wars: A New Hope in theater when it first released back in 1977. That's when I was first blown away and intrigued with AV + great story.

We´re selling modified Christie projectors (getting 10.000:1 cr) and have a M-4K25 RGB installed in our showroom. It´s small and light, but indeed pretty loud (comes with the small form factor).
The Christie Eclipse is actually not really an option IMHO. Initially developed for planetariums, it requires extensive service during operation as the two units (technically, it´s actually two projectors in series) need permanent convergence correction. Let´s see what the next version looks like and if it ever will be available for non-commercial use.
In terms of picture quality, the Barco Nerthus is currently my favorite. It´s the sharpest image i´ve ever seen and convergence can be corrected to perfection. It covers 100% rec.2020 and has enough light to adequately (means: 250/300 nits for HDR) illuminate even larger screens.

Coming back to this older post - the Christie Eclipse has received a refresh in the meantime and is now available in the G3 revision.
The mentioned convergence issues have been addressed and the size of the external cooler system has been significantly reduced. So it has pushed the Nerthus from the throne as best video projector in my opinion.

The first Dolby Cinemas, using two Christie projectors each rolled out in the US in 2015. One is right by me in Mesa, Arizona. And starting May 2025 Dolby is rolling out its new Dolby Cinema projector in Dolby Cinemas including upgrading existing Dolby Cinemas. The Superstition East Dolby Cinema here in Mesa at Signal Butte and Baseline (by my daughter and grandkid's home) just opened December 2025 - so I'll have to go check it out as it will certainly have the latest greatest Dolby projector. Wonder what difference one would notice compared to the prior model?

According to Christie, image should be the same. They optimized operational aspects like image stability and cooling (size).
