Difficulty reading movie error

I have a strato with in-built 6tb harddrive, which I brought second hand yesterday. The person I brought it from confirms no historic issues and I am pretty confident they are telling the truth.

Playback keeps pausing and bringing up the above error, then after a few seconds resumed playback. Oddly if I rewind a bit after it will play that specific part of the movie fine and then pause at a another point.

I have tried changing the hdmi cable and restarting the device using the webpage control. I have tried using WiFi and ethernet, all don't fix it.

I have a very slow internet, either 100mbps via WiFi or 40 via ethernet. Could that be a problem?

Can you think of anything else to try?

What is your setup? Are you connected by HDMI directly to a display (TV)?

Changing the HDMI cable is a good start, more than one if you happen to have other cables available. You should also delete and re-download that same title just to rule out a download problem. Your internet speed should not matter, it only affects how long it takes to download a movie. You didn't mention other K components, but if you happen to have a Terra server, or other Strato in your system and content is being moved through a Switch, then the problem could be in your LAN (ethernet cables, switch issue, etc.).

If you are running the HDMI signal through any other devices (VP's, audio processor or Receiver) bypass those and connect directly to the display to see if you encounter the same problem. If it plays without any problems, reconnect to you original setup and repeat the test. If the problem returns then there is a connection issue, EDID related issue, or some other problem when combined with that other equipment.

If you are already connected directly to a TV, try a different HDMI Input on the TV. If you were running the signal through other components, as mentioned above, and the problem is still there when you connect directly to the TV, then it is likely the 6TB drive is failing, or there is an internal problem with the Strato, possibly HDMI related. A majority of the time that message you received is related to a LAN problem or failing drive (I tend to think it's a failing drive, but I hope I'm wrong). If the Strato is still in-warranty it can be RMA'd (replaced) through K Support.

Not promising. Will give running it directly to the display a go but seems unlikely the issue as other 4k players work fine through my anthem.

I don’t remember if those units required a LAN connection to just play the movie (in theory it should not), but you might try disconnecting from your network completely (turn off WiFi or unplug Ethernet) Maybe your network is doing something. Having WiFi faster than Ethernet seems backwards for most network setups for that particular unit.

Will try. They are separate internet connections, WiFi is a 5g signal and ethernet landline, hence odd differences in speed

Unforunetely tried a completely different display and no improvement. Will wait to see what the tech support says, as I assume they can look at the logs to see the cause. I suspect it's stuffed.

Yes, Support can see the drives logs and will be able to see any "Read/Write" errors to help determine if the drive is showing early signs of impending failure. Obviously it hasn't completely failed yet because you do get some playback. It could also be something else, so best to check with them.

Yeah already connected them, but considering Easter I assume will be a few days before I hear back. Shame the logs aren't available for reviewing without them.

One comment now that I see you have an Anthem in the chain. I've had 5 - 6 clients with Anthem's that had problems with some Strato players. A couple changed processors and that resolved their problems, not sure what happened with the others, but I know one of them changed to a different Input on his Anthem and that fixed his problem. Software updates might have fixed the others.

I'll mention you when I speak with them tomorrow. (I assume you sent them the Strato serial number.)

Unforuntely not the anthem. I connected directly to a lg oled in my lounge using a completely different hdmi cable and same issue. Seems I just got unlucky and wasted money.

You should ask if they can check the logs further back, perhaps it would indicate if the seller was telling you the truth regarding previous issues.

The only thing that is giving me a little bit of hope is that the content itself isn't corrupted. Normally if a harddrive is going, sectors of the drive are unreadable or difficult to read and rewinding and replaying would just have the same issue with the specific point in the movie.

Although it could be the cache of the harddrive that is dying rather than the spindal part and why it works for a certain period

The seller is telling the truth regarding lack of previous issues and has already offered both a full refund on the sale or an alternate 6tb Strato as an option if the purchaser prefers :) The seller only had the 2 older units for sale as they upgraded to 2 x the latest players :) not for any other reason. The seller even drove 2 hours there and back to deliver the unit. Not many dealers would offer service like that :)

This will get sorted in a good way for the buyer one way or another.

Nice evening all!

Confirmed. Didn't have any concerns about the seller, was just hoping to would be fixable.
