It looks like the Pioneer drives which enabled users to register their 4K discs as well as their Blu-ray discs with Kaleidescape are discontinued. Is anybody having any luck with currently available drives on the market? I couldn’t get any straight answers from my AI assistant so have decided to join this forum and ask the question. Not sure...I am fortunate to have gotten a Pioneer that I have prevented from doing any firmware updates. Maybe check ebay?
For reference this is the drive i use....firmware 1.0!

I am really confused. I bought a Strato V a week ago and trying to figure out if I am even able to register any of my 4k BRDs. AI first said this has been discontinued and when I called it out it said yes you can (given the appropriate drive) but you must have the BRD disc (not 4k) to register and then Kscape upgrades the digital copy to 4k). Would really appreciate any clarification on the 2D2 process on the V. Thanks.
I pretty much ignored the "must be BRD disc" part and thus far there was only 4k disc e that did not register...simple barcode submitted fixed that. Some of the 4k discs I had also had the BD disc in the case... in which case i used those.
But yeah...regardless of using a BD disc or 4k disc...it registers as "owned on bluray" at which point you can buy the 4k for the listed disc to digital price.
In case anyone is looking for an option, I found that you can actually use a self-powered laptop style drive if the cable connection to the player is short. The Strato does provide power on the USB output, just not enough sustained to run a power-hungry desktop sized drive.
I have a slim/laptop sized Hitachi/LG BU40N flashed to 1.03MK in an external USB enclosure which managed to catalog discs fine when connected directly to a Strato C. Didn't work using a 10ft USB extension (the disc would spin up but I could see the player was clearly rebooting as full speed was reached because the access light went off for a couple of seconds instead of changing to the fast-flash of reading)
However, when connected directly into the back (using the six inch USB cable from the enclosure) it worked absolutely fine.
Put in 4k discs for pretty much everything and they cataloged with just a few exceptions - for those the disc read find but it didn't match up so not an issue with the player.
