A second look at the Strato M

I totally get how the M is marketed and for secondary rooms with smaller screens I doubt most could notice the lower resolution below a certain viewing angle. However I still feel there is just no role for a 1080p device in 2025, now 2026. Users should be able to upgrade TV size, move their room around and sit closer, or choose to move it to a different room and not have to think about the resolution limitation in this day and age. While we can't be 100% I have little doubt that the M is just an output limited E in firmware so it's not like the hardware is actually cheaper. I would have much rather seen the E (and maybe V) a little cheaper and sell more units that way keeping all K players at a minimum of reference quality 4K. Obviously this was what they thought worked from a business model but still doesn't make sense to me.

Didn't "they" say Marine at one point? As in, for yachts that don't have high pixel count TVs.
That's a good guess. Maybe M for Marine, E for entry 4K, V for DV (it was the first with it), and K for 8K? K has said in an interview that they do have meaning but it's not for public knowledge so it's anyone's guess.

Yeah, I am super curious about all the people with yachts and Kscape systems who are like "oof, that extra $1K for 4K is just too much for me, need to keep this budget under control."

AFAIK, none of the letters used, including the "M" have anything to do with a market related "name," they are derived from internal coding during design and production.

We have several yacht owner clients/freinds, and they all have 4K displays in the staterooms, including one that had 10 staterooms. He changed 8 displays to Bravia 9's last year, and is now changing those 8 and 4 others (2 are in open areas on the yacht) to the new Bravia 9 M2 RGB models. I haven't seen a less than 4K display on a yacht in the past 5 years.
