4K Cinematic Upgrades - NOT free?

Let me nip this in the bud right now.

Strato K is the only Strato that can play 4K Cinematic titles. Strato V, Strato E, Strato C, and Strato cannot play 4K Cinematic titles nor is there a software upgrade path that would enable that ability. They do not have the horsepower necessary to play those higher-bitrate files.

Future Strato players would almost certainly have the ability to play 4K Cinematic titles.

As for the inability to download 4K Cinematic titles, you can only queue a 4K Cinematic title to download to a Strato K (in standalone mode) or a Terra-class server. It cannot be downloaded to a Strato with storage (i.e. Strato V/E in standalone mode, or a Strato/Strato S).

Thank you John, this is exactly why I had the "I may have misunderstood" caveat. I posted too soon, and that's on me. Apologies to those that had "hope" based on my incorrect comments.

Going back to my question/comment Jim replied to: I do not have a Strato K, but HDMI 2.0 has the bandwidth to play 4K Cinematic 4:4:4 movies. According to Gemini AI. But I cannot download the cinematic movies. Is this a software issue?

My question was, is this is software issue, answer yes.

My thoughts: All non-Strato K players are HDMI 2.0 require a software update to play 4K Cinematic movies.

So, why not develop & implement the software update before releasing 4K Cinematic movie options? There are zero 8K movies available and the K system is supposed to be a 4K movie player but now it has limitations imposed by K.

The new Strato K aims at new entrants into the KScape ecosystem but has alienated all current users.

I wouldn’t say the Strato K is just aimed at new entrants. Cinematic 4K and 8K content looks like a genuine step forward in this case. That’s what it takes to get existing K-scape customers to buy a new player. From what I can tell, the response to the Strato K has been hot and heavy.

As far as alienating current users, people are free to continue enjoying K-scape just as they did before and choose not to pursue Cinematic 4K or 8K content playback.

Given my idiotic misunderstanding of a comment I heard, I've decided to delete my comments and all related comments above so as to not mislead or confuse anyone regarding a software update. There is one coming, but it has nothing to do making Cinematic playable on the other Strato players, that is just not possible as explained by J. Green.

My apologies,

Jim

Thank you. Not sure where all the talk about older players being able to play the new content started...I have seen it discussed elsewhere not just here... But if anyone thought...even if technically possible Kscape would actually allow that is a fool. We all know they make their $$ with continued hardware sales. They rely on customers with deep pockets and strong FOMO. Once I saw the K announcement and the details on the new format, I knew my V was yesterdays news and that if I wanted to experience the new format I would have to buy a new player.

I give K-scape more integrity than that, but it makes sense that as technology and technical content specifications evolve that certain players’ hardware won’t be able to keep up. Older players are necessarily obsolete, they just won’t be able to do certain things.
