NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

So I finally got my new Strato Kbto connect to my existing server. However, the screen keeps going black every few seconds. Interestingly, not when it’s playing a movie. I was downloading some ipdates, but there’s paused now. Has anybody else seen this issue. Is there a software issue? Do I have a dud?
David
What is your display? I had some handshake issues with my LG OLED when I first got my K. With some tweaking to my HDMI settings, I was able to get it working and haven't had any issues since.

A JVC RS4200 through Trinnov with an updated HDMI 2.1 board.
Another user (@Sasquatch) had similar issues it seems. If you haven't put in a ticket with Kaleidescape, I think that'd be a good start but I doubt your issue is with the K player, but a handshake issue.

Try a different HDMI input on the Trinnov. Kscape told me it was a Trinnov problem but a dealer told me that the Inputs (new Trinnov 2.1 HDMI board) are not identical. My problems resolved when I switched the Trinnov Input.

Which one did you switch it to?
I moved to the next input which was available - immediately adjacent to the original input switching from Input 2 to Input 1, and it worked perfectly.

My dealer claimed to have knowledge that the HDMI inputs were not all identical, but since everything HDMI seems to be hocus pocus,
I'm not sure who to believe. I knew that K was not giving me correct advice, in that an interface problem between K and Trinnov would be well documented, and no one I spoke with knew anything about this.

IMO, HDMI design was intentionally nonsensical to punish end users and give dealers an opportunity to sell more high end cables while they try to find a random combination that actually works. There is no consistency and problems are difficult to replicate so HDMI is the perfect storm.

As I mentioned in your other forum, the sequence of events that K has explained to me should be:
  1. If installing a player and a server, install the server first using a browser to access the K system on the same network
  2. If the server is "used" and from another customer, make sure the server has been "removed" from the other account.
  3. After attaching the server, give K time to upgrade the underlying software which could take several minutes
  4. Authorize the server on your account - may need to be confirmed with K before proceeding (email for phone call)
  5. When attaching a new player, the account should recognize the new component so you only need to select it from the ADD COMPONENT list using your browse
  6. You may need to delete the original owners movies especially if that owner had a K and you do not, as your player cannot play the Cinematic versions unless you now own a K. In my case, I manually deleted all his movies which was easy using the browser.
  7. Some movies updated immediately, however, by the next morning my server was up to date.
Confession: My system had a pre-existing Strato E already installed. The seller of my used Terra accidentally did a DHCP reset rather than a "REMOVE" action which I didn't know. So after install, my server showed all of his movies still listed but grayed out. K support told me both components were installed and functioning properly so once I deleted his movies, everything was fine.

BTW, I asked K to publish the correct sequence of events since there is confusion about how to make this work. Anyone who knows more about this process is welcome to modify my post.

That was the case with the older HDMI boards as the internal circuits were different. With the HDMI 2.1 boards, my information from Trinnov is that there isn´t any difference between inputs. So moving from one input to the other being the solution of your problem would be another mistery in the history of HDMI...

I was actually told this as well. Altitude16 with the 2.1 board. Was told to swap it from HDMI 1 to 2 since there’s an issue with HDMI 1 with Trinnov and the kscape. I still have tons of handshake issues though unless I put the K into HDMI 2.0.

Despite the fact that the Strato said that the highest quality of playback was connected, HDMI 2.3, etc, I was going to try to reduce the Chroma to 4.22 to see if that helps. I'm also going to reduce the input to 2.0 as a separate step. The whole thing is madness.

Hm, that´s interesting. We have quite some Trinnov-installations out there in the field and I explicitely asked Trinnov this specific question and was told that they are identical. This was not coming from support, but right from the development team.
Are we sure that we are talking about inputs, not outputs as the outputs are indeed different.

No. Have you had luck with that? I'll give it a try
Not with your particular issue. But this can solve instability issue in combination with a madVR Envy, so I think it´s worth a try.
Remember to power cycle the whole chain after doing EDID changes to ensure the change really trickles down.

So, it was on EDID A. I switched it to B, and power cycled everything. Now, it all works. Almost. It will play trailers. It played a scene and then the movie of Oppenheimer in Cinematic version. The only issue now is I still get video dropouts when I scroll the wall. Still, a much better situation. I’m going to try some different cables.

Sounds good. (y) Now, I´d wait for K to look into the logs and see where the dropouts come from.
